I believe we are making small incremental increases in our playing budget year on year but we are not spending to the cap. Michael Carter has said previously we would need average gate of 6,000 to do so and that was before we started getting money deducted from our share of the tv deal due to the ground being sub-standard.

The only other clubs I would imagine aren’t spending to the cap are Salford (who clearly were whilst MK was there), Hull KR (because I suspect they deliberately kept some space free to strengthen before the split) and possibly Widnes. All of the others are full cap with a few using the marquee player exemption as well.

I guarantee Wakefield have been spending the full cap for a number of years now, it is a case of smoke and mirrors in terms of "Look at us we are over achieving". Small club with a small club mentality.

It's actually a really simple formula. You bring through or bring in players who are relatively cheap and then follow your gut instinct by signing the ones you like on long term deals before anyone else has noticed them. If you know your players and you know you can trust them as people then it rarely goes wrong.

There's a kind of complex developing where if one club believe they should be doing better, they aim their vitriolic abuse at Wakefield fans because 'it should be Wakey who are in the , not us'. Being a Leyther, I was there last year (when we folded during the second half) and I must admit the Wakefield fans are superb, no gloating not one sign of trouble and everyone I met was most welcoming - credit to them.

When they played Warrington at the LSV, I was with them in the "Centurion" party atmosphere, great day.

The ground is what it is, people forget at least you can get under cover during bad weather unlike Cas and Leeds.
