Thankfully it was clear, but if the ball travels higher than the posts it can look very different from different angles.
I would still have gone for the try rather than they drop goal though.

We should have had at least one more play before going for the drop goal as we had them on the rack

We had enough chances throughout the game to be out of sight well before drop goals came into the equation. Can't fault the effort or commitment at all, but a missed opportunity.

Probably the same reason he asked the VR whether Arundel's try was a Try, even though he thought it was. And Fonua's. And Sneyd's.
He also thought Washbrook scored a try but it turns out he didn't.
So to answer your question, he asked the VR for confirmation because he wasn't 100% sure. Turns out his decision to do that was justified.

As a wakey fan I have no problem with him checking the Finn drop goal on VR.

If he had his time again, I am sure Finn would take a leaf out of Sneyd's book and have stood much deeper to give him more time to make sure
