| Let's not forget the full time Celtic Crusaders in Championship 1 ( NL2 as was ) battering all and sundry ( all on a £ 150 K salary cap ) back in 2006/7
That league was a lot tougher back then without the recent influx of sub midland clubs so this time the gulf will be more apparent , but nobodies breaking any rules so just let them get on with it and what will be will be
It's interesting to surmise what Mr Perez's intentions were back in 2014 when he made his offer to buy Leigh , was his intention to use Leigh to gain a SL place , then switch it to Toronto ? , possibly dumping Leigh back into the Championship or C1 ?

If they were his intentions it's a shame it didn't come off. Wigan is far too small to have two super league clubs, especially with Warrington, St Helens and Widnes close by, if we ever want the sport to grow. A number of union clubs have successfully relocated.

The more of your posts I read, the more I'm convinced your other half ran off with a Leyther. You seem to have a fly up your ar$e about us

He's like Jean Capdouze but, far less interesting.

As Iggy suggests , he does seem to have a flea up his backside about Leigh
He offered his opinion to which he is entitled

| I have nothing against Leigh, it just doesn't make any sense having two teams from the same small area, when we have rich Canadian backers wanting to invest in our sport. Scrapping franchises was a mistake, Super League needs to become multi-national, like the Pro 12 with teams from Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Italy. Or like the Super Rugby league with teams from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina and Japan.

I agree with you in general. However I am extremely doubtful that we will get a club from Scotland. A third club from France is a better bet.
The Canadians have made their first move. We need to encourage them now, and later when Montreal becomes a reality. Licensing is the only way to really make progress in international expansion.

Completely agree , dump ALL current clubs into a Championship 2 nd tier
Set up 10 new clubs playing regionally at several different stadia ( Yorkshire playing out of McAlpine,Elland Rd,Hillsborough,Doncaster,KC ) Lancs playing out of any decent stadia ( lots more choice in Lancs ) and so on
That is true Franchising a la Super Rugby
You ok with that

So far Toronto have played 2 competitive games , one in Yorkshire and one in London , none actually in Canada , when they're into 3 figure games IN Canada they can be evaluated , to presume anything so early is madness , we've had enough of that in the past

That isnt how Super Rugby works. You can keep pretending it is and keep pretending the only two choices are P+R or a system nobody else has and nobody is suggesting but regardless of how many times you posit it, its still going to be stupid.

But actually it is how it started , the NZ clubs currently playing in the Mitre 10 cup supply players to their regional Super Rugby clubs
The Wellington Lions were the capitals main club , they still exist but play in the aforementioned Mitre 10 cup along with other nearby clubs that come under the ' Hurricanes ' Super Rugby area
That IS how they did it

| This discussion has digressed from the main subject: which is how to retain and expand the interest of the Canadian public in rugby league when their club is steamrollering all comers.

You have chosen to use New Zealand as an example, they are the most powerful rugby union nation.
A fair comparison would be Japan. They now have a super rugby team. They did not need to gain promotion, they were a brand new club formed in 2015 and they are not threatened by relegation. The first domestic league to start in Japan was in 2003.
To compare this with Canada rugby league, the first domestic league started in 2010.

I have used NZ to show how the Super Rugby franchise competition was set up , ie all the existing clubs continued in a national comp but new clubs were set up on a regional basis using the old clubs as feeders
