I agree, HKR being the host club should have had a lot more stewards and police on the ground for the worst scenario for such a big game. The RFL know HKR and Salford fans are potentially explosive in a highly charged situation, they should have set conditions to provide damage limitation.

"Leeds is the greatest club in Rugby League"
Alex Murphy 2011: |
|
| Quote: Gallanteer "Had almost the entire contingent of Salford supporters celebrated from the stands as they should have, this would have all been avoided. The blame is entirely theirs for having no self control and then goading the opposition when all we wanted to do was cheer and applaud the efforts of our team even though they weren't good enough on the day.).'"
Look mate, I would defy any teams fans to keep themselves off the pitch under such circumstances. If there was goading, it's not on, but you can't airbrush from history a small number of HKR fans going on the field to cause conflict. Your club was (like most) totally inadequate in the security stakes. I would say most people would have had a little worry in the back of their mind before this game, apart from it seems, the organisation at HKR.

A lack of stewarding/policing failed to prevent a relatively small percentage of the total attendance, from both sides, going onto the pitch, and an even smaller percentage of those had a few scuffles. Utterly preventable from both supporters, and whoever was in charge of ground security, but don't let too much focus be put on the mindless minority.

47035_1386433761.gif We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_47035.gif |

Utter rubbish.
Saying something again and again does not make it true. I'm a fan of neither club and was siding with hull kr to win.
But the video even shows 2 blokes in Hull KR shirts fighting on the pitch. Nothing to do with the game, RFL, or Salford.
The Salford fans who came on are to blame for entering the pitch. The Hull kr fans who came on the pitch are responsible for doing the same.
Personally I'd say that fans entering the field should be a 2 point deduction once fighting occurs.
If they know before hand then they know who to blame when they are relegated.

| This COULD have happened last week too as, as yesterday KR fans we're celebrating prematurely and i'm sure some of them would have goaded some Salford fans when it appeared their team would win, obviously the Salford fans gave it back and the KR fans didn't like it.
Last week was similar, KR thought they'd won the game late on, some went on the pitch and celebrated, some decided to run over to the Giants fans and goad them, how silly they looked when the try was turned down. Luckily the Giants fans celebrations we're all kept in the stand, and no one deiced to 'give it back' to the KR idiots.
I can understand why some fans would want to go on the pitch after winning in that fashion but get off and enjoy the celebrations. Clearly some Salford fans saw their victory as a chance to go and goad the KR fans rather than celebrate their victory, KR fans took the goad and after seeing their team blow SL survival 2 weeks running are obviously a bit emotional and angry.
I wasn't there, i only know what i've seen on TV and on videos but seeing how the KR fans acted last week i doubt they were all the innocent victims and in an environment like yesterday between these 2 sets of fans it was never going to pass by trouble free !.

| Agree with other posters that this wasn't as bad at the Widnes/Cas game a couple of seasons ago but, the stewarding was useless and a proper line of stewards across the Salford end would probably have prevented the sort of scenes that happened after the game.
The point remains though, that this fixture, with everything on line, will always have the potential to cause this kind of reaction and there will be a repeat in years to come.

| Football fans surely? Rugby fans don't fight, it's always football fans isn't it?
Someone was wearing a man united or a Hull City top, so they obviously can't follow a rugby team either?

| Quote: deafo1 "doesn't help when Koucash is running around the pitch flashing a million pound cheque around inciting fans who have just seen their team relegated. Can you imagine the scenes if Neil Hudgell had done this in similar circumstances at the Kcom !!'"
Spot on! i thought this at the time, he should have just left the area and/or tried to extinguish the brewing trouble, instead, his presence and his antics led the Salford fans to believe it was fine to run around acting like braindead tosspots!, however i dare say he will reprimanded by the RFL again and hold another sweary, lairy, press conference to label them as the devil (pardon the pun) and insist there's a vendetta, did he say he might walk away?
As for the pitch invasions, well yes i understand the high emotion, tension and the relief of that tension, as we had more or less the same thing last week, albeit we would have had another chance to redeem ourselves, but yet almost, 1000 fans of Huddersfield managed to be respectful enough to stay behind the ( very small) barriers and not run on to the field, but then again, our owner wasn't running around shouting an bawling like an 18 year old stone island wearing chav!

| I would just like to say that this is a minority of hull kr fans and not reflective of their support base, most of whom would run away from a fight

| As fans we all know not to invade the pitch REGARDLESS if high emotions. If you do you should be punished. About 30-40 if our fans and about 1000+ Salford fans then....

Some of that is disgusting and both clubs should have the book thrown at them, apalling behaviour, Won't make much of a difference to Salford but they should be made to play games behind closed doors!
But to be fair most of the people were just celebrating or consoling, but that is not good, not good at all!

| A few years ago, on the final whistle of the Wakey v Cas relegation decider (arguably the original MPG that fuelled SKY's interest in creating a MPG every year), a large number of Wakey fans invaded the pitch and started taunting the losing Cas fans who were gathered at one end of the ground. To their credit, the Cas fans largely did not react (I don't like giving credit to Cas fans because my wife and kids were once subject of violence at a Cas away game; on another occasion I was spat on by them when raising money for a charitable cause; but on this occasion they acted with class and dignity which cannot be ignored!).
However, some 10 mins or so before the end of the game, the stewards gathered at the Cas end of the stadium; within a few minutes of the pitch invasion, the stewards had been joined by a large number of police officers and had formed a line across the width of the pitch in front of the Cas end. They then walked forward in a line and 'pushed' (largely not physically) the Wakey fans back beyond the half-way line. Situation defused.
I suppose the point I am making is that, in such a highly charged game with so much at stake, it had been foreseen that there may be problems and a contingency plan had been drawn up to deal with them. The stewards/police at HKR did not seem to have a co-ordinated plan and approach; hence the problems.
