| 25 wins in a row says we aren't too bad. We wouldn't expect to be top 8 if we got into SL, but we'd back ourselves to get into the top half of the Middle 8's.
We don't need to sign journeymen next season (hock hasn't set the world on fire this season!). We have a solid base to build from. if - and it's a big if- we go up this year and manage to stay there next season, the extra funding would give us the backing we need to grow and make a go of it.
Whatever happens, we will enjoy it while it lasts!

| Bizarre to read talk of Leigh's "niggle" considering Kirmond threw three punches at Kay before Kay even reacted! Forwards picking fights with wingers, not exactly the conduct to expect from a captain.
Must admit I feared the worst at 22-0, but it was all pretty similar to our game against Bradford earlier in the season.
I'll treasure the memory of seeing the joy on the face of my 7 year old's son at full time. People can talk all they like about structures, marketing and the like, but it's moments like that that make kids fall in love with our game.

| What specifically are referring to when they suggest Leigh started to get niggly in second half - Genuinely would like to know. Thought the tone was set when Hopkins made the break, which led to ankle tap on Goulden during first set of second half. Then an offload finally came off to send Kay off, and he took three knocks to the head in incident that led to the sin bins.
Thought it was more a case of Leigh running harder and more direct, while Wakefield probably thought it was job done. Then got some momentum, which was only broken temporarily by a close call with video ref.

| Quote: Talent Spotter "Gotta give some credit to Leigh. It's refreshing to see a team happy to throw the ball around and take a few risks, rather than focus the majority of their play on robotic completion rates and territory like most SL clubs.
Whether this playing style would be a success in the top flight on a weekly basis is another story however it's not done them too badly so far.'"
It was when Leigh started completing sets that they dominated and won the game.

In the 2nd half, i didnt like all the shots from a 3rd or 4th man into the tackle who was hitting the guys in the back when the tackle was virtually complete - think Simon was the victim of one of those

Did you get rid of all the voices in your head? Do you now miss them and the things that they said?: |

| Worth noting that in Leigh's 30 man squad the only non English player is Fui Fui Moi Moi. There is plenty of British talent outside Super League if you know where to look. Kay, Brierley and Armstrong will all be top 4 SL players within the next 2/3 years IMO.

To be fair, they've all come through the development of Super League clubs so they've obviously got the talent, particularly Armstrong who only left Saints to finish his studies. Interesting to see how they've developed now, as I'd say both Cas and Wakey would be chuffed to have Brierley and Kay back! Perhaps Leigh playing in the Championship allows them to be slightly more patient with the development of players which serves them better in the long term?
Found it a really interesting match to watch yesterday. Leigh conceded some really soft tries, and I can't believe the amount of ball they dropped. They struck me as a team used to playing in matches where most offloads come off, and even if they don't, they aren't punished by the opposition - very much similar to the difference between NRL and SL teams in the World Club Series. But they back themselves really well, in the half time team talk Paul Rowley told them not to change their playing style! This plus the fact they're a bloody skillful team and they're all willing to work for each other means they do have the potential to do really well.
However, I think their playing style means on those bad days where the offloads just aren't coming off and the passes just aren't sticking, things could be really bad. I can't wait to see how the match against Warrington goes...Warrington certainly won't be taking them lightly!

| Leigh have been sloppy with possession since around the Salford game. It's an issue we need to sort out then and this is not our greatest patch of form during the 25 match winning run.
On an interesting note, we can reach a new British record 30 consecutive wins before we play Warrington in the QF. Some tough games to come - Featherstone at summer Bash next weekend and London Away both look particularly difficult - but it's up for grabs

| Well this is an entertaining thread.
Interesting to see that Leigh are already upsetting a few with their success so far.
The comments at the start about them not being able to beat Wakefield, completely forgetting that they had already seen off Salford are quality examples of jumping the gun.
A close game for Widnes and Catalan against sides spending far more money.
How will they all cope in the Super 8's????
How can a side spending less get promoted. Well if they beat Salford and Wakefield, then they are not going to need to play in the million pound game and that could mean 2 sides up and 2 sides down. That would really put the cat amongst the pigeons. Although I'm still more of the opinion that it's not clear cut at this stage. Too many games and injuries to call it this early in the day.

Salford Red Devils RLFC.
[quote="Gotcha":y7izhg01]Salford won't win Super League in my lifetime. Even saying in jest they would sounds stupid.[/quote:y7izhg01]: |

| Without wanting to sound condescending and sour I thought Leigh were very fortunate against Salford, in the weeks leading up to the game we lost a number of key players through suspension and injury and then lost Dobson and Sa'u 10-15 minutes in which caused us major issues. BJB then threw that ridiculous off-load into Brierleys hands 10 metres from our own line to gift them the win.
However, when you're a Championship team you need that luck sometimes in the Challenge Cup against Super League teams. I therefore, even after that game couldn't buy into the Leigh hype.
Yesterday though I there was no luck, involved Leigh were just quite simply the better team. On paper they're not, but as a unit and a team they definitely are. Wakefield shocked them in the first 40 and Leigh didn't have a clue what had hit them, their poor completion rate was no fluke it was a result of Wakefield's intensity in defence. However second half Wakefield dropped off considerably and Leigh ran them ragged, playing some fantastic and expansive RL.
You could see it in the way their forwards were running and their backs were attacking, they just simply wanted it more. Concerning times for Wakefield.

Kirmond threw 3 punches in the tackle & started the niggle, he was even useless at that & was flapping like a school girl.
He threw another later on at Oli Wilkes behind the sticks & missed again.
It's all there plain as day on TV.

But did you like the 'air' punches from Kirmond on Kay in the tackle, or did you prefer the two head shots on Pownall by the Wakey winger & Ali Lauatiti followed up with a neck grapple by the ginger whinger Chris Riley ?
As a team Leigh lack size, but have a pack mentality & if they receive niggle they give it back but twice as hard, those lads would practically die for each other it seems.
Nothing wrong in that, they just do it better & tougher.
