Almost none of the Saints players saw it. It was weak refereeing.'"
So you speak for James Green and the St's players then?
Did you make as much fuss as this when Ade Gardner committed his shoulder charge on Kris Welham (in the CC game 2013)and put him out of action for several matches? His was a grade B like James Greens and he was given the same punishment as Green,
Or Jon Wilkins on Dobbo in the same game,Grade C? Not forgetting Frances Melis shot on Craig Hall which was a grade E?
You must have been up in arms!

| Quote: Sal Paradise "This is two players Salford have put on long term injury - Todd Carney and Brett Ferres.
It is about time somebody sorted this out - the Maguire legacy continues to raise its head in SL.'"
I think this is the most stupid thing I've ever read. Every time someone gets injured, it just be a deliberate ploy by the coaching staff? In fact it must be an inherited deliberate ploy of a previous head coach that the current head coach of another club was once assistant coach at? Really?
Nothing illegal whatsoever about the Carney tackle. Sometimes players get injured. Locke came off concussed v Huddersfield after a Huddersfield player landed on his head after Locke slipped. Nothing illegal but an injury. I think if must the Anderson 'drop on players after they've slipped' coaching style
Paterson and Lee boy path injured in tackles v Wigan. Must be the coaching
Jordan Walne gig an eye injury v Castleford. In a tackle! Damn Powell and his 'attack the eye' coaching. Hasn't played since. I think Cas should be paying his wages
Maybe we should remove all physical contact from the game? Do people really think that foul play is a recent invention? Or injuries didn't used to happen?

| If you think players aren't coached to cause pain to the ball carrier then you're incredibly naive.
Whether it's twisting limbs, the cannonball tackle, its predecessor which was the 3rd man hit the ribs of the tackled player, squeezing the ribs/chest of the ball carrier to make him struggle to breathe, kneeling/putting pressure on the calf etc etc All designed specifically to cause pain to the ball carrier and so slow the play the ball.
It's sh|thouse tactics and it needs eliminating from the game. If you want to cause pain then have the balls to put a big hit in. Anything else is utter cowardice.

Or when a Hull KR player put Mark Flanagan out for just short of a year following a cannonball tackle?

Think you'll find that the video evidence proved that it wasn't a cannonball tackle thus Con Mika didn't even get charged.

| Quote: Andy Gilder "There's a distinction to be drawn between taking out the legs of a player who is still moving in the tackle and looking to make ground, and going out of your way to target the lower leg of a ball carrier who has clearly submitted to the tackle and is in a vulnerable position.
Most of those perpetrated by the likes of McIlorum are just on the right side of that line. The Chase one was way over it. Ferres had already submitted to the tackle, his legs weren't moving and Chase had to run around the ruck to take a cheap shot at his standing leg. That's why it's seven games.
Has the reasoning gone up on the RFL website yet? Usually makes interesting reading in terms of the rationale for decisions.'"
rlThe minutes from the disciplinary hearing are now onlinerl.

I can only assume given the defence offered by Chase and Salford, they haven't bothered looking at the DVD. Ferres is in no position to offload. Neither is the impact by Chase designed to turn him to face his own posts.
It's purely and simply an attack to the standing leg with the apparent intent to cause injury.

That Ferres falls as awkwardly as he does is unfortunate, but the intent is still there IMO.

And don't forget the old favourite - head in the face during the wrestle, right up until you are called to 'move'; observe Liam Farrell to see a master at work.

Absolutely, there's loads of different techniques. I'm not singling one club out either as my own was guilty of using some of them in the past.
But I agree fully with Brian McDermott

| Hope next time chase does something like that again, the players just leather him good and proper. Not condoning foul play but love it if he ended up on the end of a good old style les Boyd special.

He'd be safe against Hudds then, they don't have a fight in them.

[i Summary of Player's submissions on the Charge / evidence
Player accompanied by Head Coach Iestyn Harris and CEO Martin Vickers. Player pleads not guilty. Players are coached to turn players so their heads are facing back towards their own posts. In this instance difficult for player to know where to go in. Team mates were expected to take opponent the other way unfortunately player goes other way to what was expected. Has to get opponent to floor to prevent off load. Player goes in and makes contact with opponents hamstring and not his knee. Point of contact not cause of injury it was twisting motion by other involved players. Player is friend of opponent and enquired about his wellbeing after the match. No malice in the tackle. Officials could have called held earlier. [/i
Utter rubbish from Chase, Harris and Vickers.

I wonder who he's talking about?
