| Quote: loiner81 "I know, so since Good Friday was round 9 we shouldn't really compare. If you want me to post those figures though i'm more than happy to... In fact, see my next post.
And I bet you're one of those that compares fixtures rather than rounds, then proclaims the game is dead because a fixture played on a warm friday last year with important points up for grabs pulled lots more than the same fixture played on a cold, wet Thursday this year...
The former. Every time, it's what this board does better than any other.
Are you new here? RLFans only focuses on ANY negative then spins and spins those negatives until the game is beyond repair and we're all doomed. Many posters do the same with positive news, a bit like you're trying to do.
None of the above, just comparing round 8 from last year with round 8 from this year.
It's what's been done on this forum for years.'"
Why on earth would you not compare like for like fixtures. You put forward some silly examples of why you wouldn't compare fixtures. The weather is always variable, and therefore will even itself out over the course of a season. Therefore you can look at fixtures against each other so long as you don't take a 1 off fixture and try to draw conclusions from that and that alone.Exactly the same for important games, they will even themselves out over time, they are by definition outliers. they are still important but don't use them as the basis for any conclusions!
Using rounds is completely pointless. If Wigan, Saints, Leeds, Hull fc, Warrington + A.N.Other are at home you are going to get an artificially high number. just the same as if you compare games where Wigan play Wakey or Catalans at home. you will get low numbers.
Just like comparing last years good friday to this. Wigan and Hull fc playing at home contributed 17k more than last seasons good friday. you show a 12k difference in your numbers (with 1 extra game, broncos v catalans had 1,002 however). such a pointless comparison. absolutely nothing of note can be interpreted from these figures. It seems to me like pointless point scoring, as shown by your explanation.

| Who gives a about these strange statistical battles! All I know is that there were 2 brilliant games played out in front of sellout crowds, and that's got to be good for our sport!
Took 3 RL virgins to the Saints game yesterday and they were all mesmerised by it!!!

So that we can see if crowds are either up or down after X amount of rounds. A bit like how pretty much all sports do it.
This year, crowds are well up after 8 rounds with no signs of any drop off. Whether you want to accept that, agree with that or want to stamp your feet saying the system's flawed is irrelevant.
Happy Easter

| Just think what the crowd would have been if the Leeds v Cas fixture would have been at Headingley?

| The Salford figure is surprising. Is that a turn around in home attendance or lots of over optimistic pies after a good friday win??

| There were probably between 2,000 and 2,500 pies there so a definite increase on their numbers from last year. But interpolating the Salford numbers from that shows I would think an increase of somewhere between 800 and 1,500 on the home support. Combine that with the great following we took to Huddersfield and there is cause for a little cautious optimism.
Of course being 3rd in the table helps

| It doesn't matter which way you choose to compare them it will still be an incorrect comparison so why bother? It's pointless and tells you absolutely nothing. The only figure which matters is the one at the end because all these bits and bobs you and others are picking and choosing to suit will be evened out.
Wherever people think they are 'gaining' this week will be lost another.
