| Quote Mr. Zucchini Head="Mr. Zucchini Head"The rule about going back and playing it was iirc, originally brought in for when players are upright and pass out of a tackle simultaneously with the red shouting held. It's been extended a bit to give botd to guys who don't think they were tackled, but this was obvious. Lee was laid on him then we wriggled out and he got up and ran.'"
Spot on. I know it's an extreme example but what if he had 3 players on top of him with him on the ground, clearly tackled.....then got up and ran off staying he didn't think he was held? Just let him go back and PTB?
Referee has every right if he thinks Escare has taken the mick there and penalise him for running on. Especially given the time left it could be seen as a time wasting tactic from Escare. Had he got away with and asked to play the ball again it would've chewed up around an extra 10/15 secs had he slowly got back into position.

| I wonder where Phillip Bentham gets his trousers dry cleaned. They don't call him "Filthy Phillip" for nothing.

| I think common sense prevailed and the penalty was the right call. 90 seconds left and Escare tries to waste time by taking the mick. It's one thing to move off the mark or to pass the ball as the referee calls held but Escare would've known he was tackled and tried time wasting.
Speaking of Escare, I've said it before but if he wasn't French nobody would give a toss about him.

| Penalty for mine as I thought it was in cases were there was doubt about the call of held.
No need to shout held there.
If it was just a blanket you can run on when ever you like, then players would just run forwards every play the ball, declaring they did not know.
Tried to find the wording of the rule, but seems not to be on the website.

| Not going to comment on the actual decision as didn't watch the game but here is what the previous poster is after from section 11 - the tackle
BTW, law book is available for free from the RLIF website.
Verbal instructions 6. If any doubt arises as to a tackle, the Referee to should
resolve doubt give a verbal instruction to “play on” or shout “held” as
the case may be. If the referee is of the opinion that the
player in possession could not hear the “held” call before
passing or running off with the ball he should instruct the
player to play the ball at the point where the player was
when “held” was called unless it occurs after the fifth play
the ball in which case a handover will apply.
Speed essential 11. The play-the-ball must be performed as quickly as
possible. Any player who intentionally delays the bringing
of the ball into play shall be penalised.

How many tries did Escare score last season?

27.
He's terrible defensively, his kick returns are average, and he isn't that great coming into the line. He's a good support player and good but he's not as good as someone like Jamie Shaul or Johnny Lomax whom get half the praise
