Humberside is still an area though even if it's not official. In the same way as if somebody said Hull was in the North you wouldn't tell them the North didn't exist.

The North does exist whereas Humberside has been abolished.

You didn't. But your justification for saying Humberside as a description of an area doesn't exist anymore is because it's not a county. So if "The North" exists as a description of an area it must surely be a county.

Hull is in East Yorkshire. It's also in Humberside. It's also in the North. It's also England, Great Britain, the UK, Western Europe etc. Some are officially named areas, some aren't. It doesn't mean they don't exist simply because they're not official.
It'd be like saying Saints don't exist because they're officially called St. Helens Rugby Football Club.

So you agree Hull is in the county of East Yorkshire which, I think you will find, was my original point.
