| Neither punch was exactly Mike Tyson style was it.
The guy is obviously being aggressive to the people around him and hits out at Slater in the face. Slater hits him back.
I'd say for the guy to stagger like that he is drunk.
Slater is lucky the guy didn't hit the floor as often that's what turns it into something way more serious but I think he had every right to "reply".
He didn't follow up or have a further issue with the guy once he got him away from him.
No more to be done with this in my opinion.
He needs to be careful where he goes drinking I guess.

| A non-story really; Slater did what anyone would do in that situation by defending himself against an assault - he didn't use unreasonable force or follow up with any malice.
I'm baffled that some people are comparing this to the England players situation; unless Billy the Kid was a) on a curfew and b) fails to turn up to his next scheduled training session, the two situations are entirely different.

Would you have no sympathy for someone who is run over by a bus? After all, if they hadn't left their house they wouldn't be in that situation.....

| No fan of Slater and his snide wind up ways on the field, as a player though awesome. In this situation I think Slater is fully justified, I reckon I good majority of men would have done the exact same.

| Worst thing about this story is the fact he was trying to get in Mojo tbh. Skanky, overcrowded place full of knobs. Music's alright though.

| I think Slater has been lucky with the outcome. The other party didn't really punch him from what I can see. Slater is a strong guy and the other fella looked about 7 stone we through. I think those factors would be taken into account if push had come to shove. As someone said, if the other party had hit the deck and suffered a serious injury or worse I think Billy Slater wouldn't be going back to Oz for a very long time. Luckily, it seems no great harm has been done.

well, at least it would mean there was at least a modicum of Irish involvement at this RLWC then

| Quote: Ferocious Aardvark "If John Prescott was defending himself then Slater must be too. I don't think the numpty who pushed him in the face will be doing it again any time soon, he got what he deserved, and, lucky for him, no more.
There is no suggestion that Slater broke any ban and the Aussies are over here for 2 months so to suggest they abstain totally from any beer is faintly dotty. It's a rugby tour, and as long as they stay within the bounds their team managers set, why the hell shouldn't they go oyt and enjoy themselves?
As for the experts on alcohol's effects (I haven't seen their detailed logs of what Slater had had to drink) if Australia's record is the yardstick and if they do go out on the razz, then maybe it is something England should be doing more not less, as it has obviously led to decades of woeful rugby failure for the Kangaroos, and does at least explain why the likes of Slater, Inglis, Thurston & Co. have performed so badly at the top level for so long.'"
Yes of course how silly of me. I am going to 'phone McNamara and tell him to let the England squad on the beer immediately.

Wake up to yourself. He's deliberately kicked someone in the head whilslt catching a bomb in the season gone. Then left his leg in the air again!!! He's kicked balls out of people's arms in the act of try scoring. He even left a foot in there after a bomb he kicked against Ireland recently. He's a little grub, a lot of people at NRL clubs know it.
Role model my arsé.

The Rooster Booster is a proud Brit, surprised you have not noticed that in his posts.
The man that hit Slater looked pretty smart.............. must be one of those clever Mancunians

You needn't bother, as they aren't totally banned from beer in the first place. But I hope you have more luck in getting to speak to McNamara than you have in understanding my humour.

| Quote: JEAN CAPDOUZE "The Manchester police need to interrogate fully, and look into the background of the 40 year old offender, to see if there is a criminal record in his past. '"
Well done you for telling the police, and sadly us, what they need to do to carry out the job for which they are highly trained to carry out.
Few more pointers you could drop;
1. Teach those mothers, whose daughters themselves have children, how to suck eggs.
2. Tell librarians they might want to start using the Dewey Decimal system to order their books.
3. Have a word with the Supreme Pontiff and give him direction on how we came into being.
You have a strange way of writing, I am guessing there is either a breakdown in your understanding of what is meant by the word "condescending" in the English language (shouldn't be too difficult, it derives from your part of the world) or you genuinely are [ithat[/i bloke in a bar that no one wants to talk to yet some poor sod will end up the unlucky bugger having to listen to your "opinions" on everything while his mates are stood several yards away laughing at how he has been cornered by you.
Give it a rest, pretty much everyone on this site happens to be an adult, to that end I think we have a basic understanding of the machinations of law.
Bore off.
