| Quote: Mild Rover "Circular though, isn't it? There's a few clubs, maybe as many as 8 or 9, who if they decided unilaterally to start living within their means, would see those means decrease in a downward spiral.
Spending the full cap might not guarantee success, but spending significantly under it, pretty much ensures failure.
If it was 3 or 4 clubs struggling financially and the rest thriving, they could be cut adrift and the rest could happily sail away. Unfortunately, it is the other way around - 3 or 4 doing well, the rest struggling. And 3 or 4 isn't enough to run a league. The top clubs need to be 'stifled' because there are so few of them and they need somebody to play, who can 'challenge' them. They'll carry on winning every year, but once they start winning every week interest will wane quickly.
The weakness of other clubs holding Leeds or Wigan back might well frustrate, but to a large extent it (the other's weakness) is what their success is built on. If by some miracle there were suddenly a dozen other big clubs competing with you with similar resource, you'd need a good deal less brasso. If the weak got even weaker, then where's the challenge? The big clubs have got the rest exactly where they'd want them, I imagine.'"
Wrong. I'd be amazed if Lenegan, etc. wanted anything else than other clubs to compete hard and bring in fans and media interest. Its good for business. Stuffing failing, poorly supported clubs that the media has practically forgotten even exist, isn't.

That's kind of what I meant by 'If the weak got even weaker, then where's the challenge?'
Teams that can [icompete[/i with you, so games are not foregone conclusions, but not actually [ibeat[/i you too regularly. Or are you going to tell me you want your team to lose more often?
A few more clubs get closer to break even and the calls for a cap rise would soon come. 'To retain more top players in SL', and in no way to help the rich clubs maintain their competitive advantage and put the rest back on the breadline, obviuosly.
If we (HKR) were among the rich clubs, I'd want exactly the same. I hope I wouldn't adopt a sanctimonious 'blame the poor' attitude towards all the game's ills though.
If the big clubs get really fed-up, they should go off and form a Mega-League or some such. There's nothing to stop them.

Even if they did, feel free to explain why they should then be free to arrange their own preferential treatment, if their money had indeed been lost "propping up" the old club.'"
Because they were able to create a mechanism for doing so, indirectly. Nothing about that process was fair, but that seems at least rational.
If Khan had not have gone newco and had brought you out of administration, striking a deal with the creditors, it'd have just been a points deduction.
Tbf, he got an extant squad, transfer of the licence and a stadium lease for very little cash up front. The option of starting over was there and the forfeiture of half the Sky cash was made clear from the outset, wasn't it?

Weren't Bradford one of those vulture clubs circling around Wakefield at the time? They were also circling around Salford not so very long ago.

I don’t remember Bradford, it was Catalans, Hull & strangely enough Huddersfield, the Andean Condor of vultures .

Didn't they circle Wakefield for Ben Jeffries?
I'm surprised their circling of Salford only resulted in picking off Adam Sidlow but they were knowingly skint at the time, so any more pickings might have looked like stealing
Circling Wrexham proved a tad more worthwhile when they came away with Jarrod Sammut and Elliot Kear.

After reading the Rimmer stuff it may be better for a SL club to go into administration this season rather than next.'"
The RFL might change the rules on administration and say 2 years. That way thats 1 club relegated, and all it would want now is another club to go the same way. That gives them then a 12 team super league without too many big drama's.

Ah, you just want to be crassly stupid. You should've said, though I might have guessed. Crack on.

| If Bradford have secured a "bridging" loan from a bank, then how come it's taking a week to sort out funds?
Also, is borrowing money from the bank on the promise of future ticketing revenues not very similar to some of the actions of early 2012?
Catalan and London next up.....10,610 and 10,132 last year, before the August wages are due to be paid......then with Huddersfield...who should be chasing the hubcap.....so could be a 15k bumper crowd. Then 5 months of no home games and a reported 1 million quid to find in wages.....and the interest on the 200k loan.
Queue bucket collections galore by the middle of February 2014!
Also, out of interest, if The RFL own the lease on Odsal, what exactly are Bradford borrowing against this time?

So bradford are almost back to square one, losing money and needing new investment....again?
The club is dying. They managed to survive all that once, by the skin of the teeth, but if they have to go through that again i doubt they'll survive. An ailing club.
