| When you are having a go at attendances, basically you are not having a go at a team or a club, but the fans of that club for not turning up.
However, when 6000 Wigan fans (more likely 6,200) turn up for a match and you have a go at them for not up, then expect a portion of of that 6000 to hit back for you having a go at them.
When people have a go at the 2k attendance that Huddersfield got against London , the total number of people to stand your corner is proportionally less.
It's nothing to do with Valid or invalid excuses, it's simply about the number of people who can stand your corner in forums.
I'd argue that if people are having a go at Huddersfield for their crowds this year, it's because it is unusual for a side being more successful to suffer a drop in crowds, usually the glory hunters start to turn up, boosting attendances. Because this has not happened for you, then people are expecting the Huddersfield success story not to last. Thinking that longer term their better supported teams will float back to the top.
But that's not necessarily the case, if success was just about the numbers who watch, then Saints period of success (with not the biggest crowds) and Hull FC's annual (underperformance) would eventually even out.
If people are having a go at the crowds, then just take it for the compliment it is, if they can't compete with your team, then they attack something else, regardless of it's importance in the success of your team.
Just need to not take it so personally.

I don't. I think the opposite. The idea was it'd get a good/better crowd nearer to a heartland club. It was bloody awful and embarrassing and ultimately put Wigan's support into question.
Had it been at say Doncaster or somewhere in the Midlands, then at least a poor crowd could have been attributed to the distance needed to travel whilst keeping the game neutral and showing the game to a new audience.
I hope the RFL learned a lesson from yesterday.

| bewareshadows, i dont take anything personally regarding our crowds, there is no people more frustrated than the fans who do go to games that we cant attract more people, we know the reasons why our crowds have fallen this year and there is nothing we can do about it.we would love to see us getting 10k but its not gonna happen for various reasons.
daz's original post was that whenever we have a poor turnout its jumped on by everyone, not just on forums, but in the media too, i suspect it was rather tongue in cheek that nobody really notices or cares when other clubs dont get big crowds, it seems to be that only huddersfield can be criticized for poor support.
i have no problem with people having a go at us for poor crowds, we deserve it, our crowds are poor! but it should be across the board.

I think London and Wakey in years gone by would argue that they have had it in the neck for low crowds.
When we (Saints) were winning the league, we would get it from Wigan fans that we don't get enough turning up for league toppers.
When people have nothing else left to use, the crowd watchers come out and start using that.
In the end attendances are of concern to the club involved. Will Wigan be concerned about yesterdays attendance?
Will London be concerned about yesterdays attendance, or will they be more concerned about the week in week out numbers turning up.

| There's only one reason for the crap crowd IMO - London were playing. Rubbish team, bottom of SL, no travelling support, Wigan 50-1 on etc. I'm just glad over 6000 Wigan fans bothered to turn up for a non-contest, would have been extremely embarrassing otherwise.

| It's laughable, every reason and excuse in the book has come out on this one.
Gonna save em all up for when someone has a pop at our crowds again.

| Yesterday was a foregone conclusion. You could see for the past 2 weeks Wane was hell bent on winning this game and wasn't taking any chances. All Wigan fans that didn't go saved themselves £25 to go towards the Wembley weekend. Common sense from the Wigan fans.

There are some Huddersfield fans on here who don’t appear to have understood a previous posters comments.
In essence, what the facts and figures show from the last two seasons Challenge cup semis is that the number of Wigan fans at yesterdays game was about the current going rate for one club at a semi final.
Wigan cannot be responsible for the fact that virtually no London fans or neutral fans turned up.
Judging by the comments of the Huddersfield fans, I’m now expecting 10K from Hull & 10K from Warrington to turn up at todays game - we shall see.
No doubt if that quaint Yorkshire village of Huddersfield (population 146000) had played the vast metropolis of Wigan (population 81000) yesterday, Leigh would have been swamped with at least 3000 extra fans.
On second thoughts, I've changed my mind. For the next big cup match not involving Wigan were less than the current 6K average from each club turn up, Wigan should accept full responsibility for that as well. It is all Wigans fault.

| Another one missing the point. The main reason people are having a go of the low crowd is because of the proximity of the venue to Wigan. A short cab ride for many fans. Sad though how RL fans in general will slate 'meaningless' league games yet not turn out when a place in a Wembley final is up for grabs.

Surely it's you who misses the point, because Wigan didn't have a low turn out.

| If we're generous and say the 274 were Landan fans, then 6,000 isn't a bad turnout for what was always going to be a mismatch. I'll bet the RFL will be happy if Hull & Wire turn up with 6,000 fans each at Huddersfield today.

| If you got the same crowd for a 'meaningless' home league game vs London it would be classed as a low turnout?
