Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

500,000 Tickets were available 4 months ago.....80% of these are still available...the initial rush is over, now it's time for the hard sell......they'll do well to shift 300k IMHO.....11K average....32% down on 2008.
Averages/Cumulative...it's all the same mate.....the RFL have set their sights pretty damn high....let's hope for the sake of the game, not too high!
Quote: headhunter "Again, what sort of ticket sales would you deem acceptable 8 months prior to the start of a tournament with kick-off times yet to be announced?'"
The Final should be sold out, as should the semi-final double header....3 of the teams there are already known...the only variable will be the 4th and as for KO times, for the final and semi's, it shouldn't make a blind bit of difference. All the England games should be sold out by now......so that's 75,500 +90,000, +75,000 + 25,500 and 24,500.....so around 290,500 (or 59%).
Pre-booked tickets are the norm in world championships in almost every sport I can think of....can you imagine Englands pool games in 2015 not selling out in seconds once they are released?

If there are more games, then it's harder to achieve a higher average. Of course that's irrelevant because your argument seems to consist of nothing more than plucking random attendance figures out of the air with no basis at all. Presumably 2015 is a RU World Cup, I don't know who buys tickets for those sort of events so I wouldn't be able to comment on how fast they will sell or whether they will sell out. I'm not sure why you're expecting this in RL though when there's absolutely no precedent for such things.

Random? RLWC has a potential attendance of 500,000 if they sell every ticket......there are 28 games this time around, so an average of 17,857 would be needed for 100% capacity......which of course is impossible. If they match 2008, they will get 457,268 through the gates....they won't.
Random numbers I don't do.....realism I have in bucket loads though
As for not knowing who buys tickets to these sorts of events...... grow up. The RWC 2015 will be wall to wall on ITV from Jan 1st 2015...build up, promos etc....and yes, the final, semis and england pool games will sell out in a flash....regardless of the "type of person" buying......the RLWC 2013 hasn't even agreed a TV partner yet FFS and has 40,000 seats for the final still available....these are FACTS by the way, not opinion!
I repeat.....I am not knocking the RLWC.....I am simply saying that they have shifted maybe 100k tickets and need to get their finger out shifting the other 400k....judging by the comments on here about "waiting til later in the year"...they should have no problem with that, but English RL fans don't have a pedigree for flocking to internationals.........

| There is a rugby union thread in the 'other sports' section of the forum, if you wish to further discuss the RU World Cup.
Why compare the two? We all know what you are telling us. Lets concentrating on making OUR World Cup as good as it can be, and let the Union boys do their thing.

England got 8k at Salford and just under 9k down the road at Craven Park in a tournament that wasn't organised and didn't mean anything v France.

Well since the 2000 including the World Cup if you exclude games against Australia and New Zealand but include "bigger" Nations like France the average crowd against the rest in England has been 9,500.
If you include all teams the average is 20,000.
Maybe it will be double that this year, I hope so.

who cares. RU can do what they want, we dont earn any more money by being better than them, they dont earn any more by being better than us, we arent each others benchmarks.
We arent staging a world cup to be like RU, we arent staging one to compete with them, we are staging one so that RL fans can watch RL nations play RL and make as much money as we can whilst doing it.
as long as the WC makes a bit of money and everyone enjoys it, then it has met its minimum targets. IF we make money, we spend it toward the next one, and make a bit, and so on and so on until we build it to something bigger and better.

Excellent post. I think we need to stop comparing it to RU as they are light years ahead of us internationally.
Lets compare it to previous RL world cups. The last World Cup held here was a disaster. Massive financial losses and a final attended by 40k. This time around we have sold 35k in under 4 months and the other games are selling well.
Lets compare it to the successful 08 WC. It was well attended and made a great profit. Gutter fax, you said this Aussie WC was a huge success and we won't beat. You said you expect the opening ceremony, semi, fina and all England's games to sell out. But didn't the Aussies only sell the final out?
You keep mentioning average attendance, but if we get more fans attending, but less average attendance over more games, surely this is a success?

Just out of curiosity, how many tickets were available 8 months before the last World Cup, and how many were sold?
Maybe that will give us a better indication of were we stand in relation to the last competition.

You wanted me to take a wager that the RLWC would get maybe 50,000 less fans that 2008....with 10 more games. Nobody in their right mind would take that bet.....8,928 a game is nearly half the average from 2008 (16,331).
457,268 fans are needed to match RLWC 2008.........if you really fancy a flutter,I'll give you 2/1 on that....and BTW.....I don't bet for charity.
'"
That figure is a little flawed.
For a true comparison vs the 2008 World Cup, you can't simply add on 10 games at the 2008 average (for the whole tournament). Afterall, both tournaments have the same number of Finals (1) & Semi-Finals (2), the extra games are coming in the group stages and quarter finals.
You've basically included figures in your average for games at the Suncorp and the SFS and applied them to Derwent Park & Spotland.

| For mine, I have bought my ticket for the final as one of a group of 10. Im planning on attending at least another 7 games, again probably in a group of 4/6 ish, and will hopefully be organising a bit of a club day to the semi final.
But as a tight RL fan, I
a, want to keep my money in my pocket for as long as possible,
b, dont want to pay a transaction fee every time if i bought tickets sporadically as some folk on here have mentioned.
c, im trying to give my friends a chance to buy tickets at the same time for games at the John Smith/ DW etc. so that we can all sit together,
The article cited states that the vast majority of tickets bought so far have been bought by people that have never attended a major RL event before. When the rest of us decide to get ours, ie mid October, then is the time to break out the doom mongering, surely.
All in all, there are alot of positive signs for the 2013RLWC, especially in comparison to the 2000 RLWC.
