It's so funny that as soon as Catalans have a match called off there are accusations of wrongdoing and foul play. Despite the fact that pictures clearly show a massive amount of ice on the pitch, and despite the fact that a whole host of sporting events have been postponed throughout France including a RU match where 80,000 people were already in the stadium.

Would anyone have been complaining or bringing up conspiracy theories if a northern M62 club had a fixture called off after a week of sub-zero temperatures, with reports of up to -10 degrees at times? Get over yourselves.

I've heard the watering system was attacked by the ice who made some malfunctions, but why the city of Perpignan (Catalans aren't the owners of Gilbert Brutus!) didnt put out this system ??! They say they wanted to have a more flexible pitch for the night, but rugby league is not played on ice, but on fake pitches and snow this year

Nobody is questioning the state of the pitch. Questions are being raised about why the pitch got into that state and whether everything possible was done to allow the game to go ahead. Watering a frozen pitch and then leaving it uncovered doesn't, on the face of it, seem like a good plan.

There's a small minority mentioning conspiracies. The vast majority are suggesting incompetence. The info coming from McRae last night and this morning also raises some competency questions.


If they'd watered the pitch and left it uncovered? Most likely yes. At the very least there'd be rows about competency.

the crucial thing about this that the pitch was watered on the saturday morning - the pitch was playable on the friday before the water was applied but the water froze on the previously playable surface due to the icy air (wind chill) coming from the mountains - when I arrived the air temperature was +3°
The problem lays with te moron who decided to water the pitch a few hours before...

total incompetance and typical french lack of organisation of such matters
