NRL expansion? Sometime soon, maybe......:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_9857.jpg |

| Hang on, no they don't! I've just shown that the two clubs complaining only played one or two games on a Monday and the crowds were no different than if they had played those teams on a different day so how do they lose money? The FACTS show that they are not losing money on attendances. Corporates? Maybe but I wouldn;t have thought it would be too hard to get companies to come to the footy for a meal and drinks straight from work rather than dragging execs out on a weekend. Then they get $40k plus the value of Monday nights in their NRL grants. How are they losing money?????

| The article I showed quoted Richo complaining about the Souths v Dragons game, you supplied attendances to different opponents at different times.
[i"The Rabbitohs chief executive, who is leading a groundswell of club complaints against Monday night football, has estimated the round six match against the Dragons will cost Souths $205,000 in potential earnings from ticket, corporate and merchandise sales."[/i
and Greenberg was also taling about a fixture you didn't chose to compare either
[iAnd Bulldogs boss Todd Greenberg said his club had already lost as much as $300,000 in ticket sales by having the opening round game against the Tigers on a Monday night instead of Sunday afternoon.[/i
However, there is clearly some relevance in your post re opponents on different days to show Richo. Maybe you should email him your findings. Maybe you and Dally are proving that NRL clubs lie.
Many clubs play on different mondays. Many don't like playing on Mondays. It seems I can't stress that enough to you.

even if clubs lose out hosting games :
1. the nrl gives money to clubs to offset this ie i think 20k per game.
2. all clubs share it around
3. value of MNF means higher TV money which clubs get
take out MNF TV rights and clubs income goes down ....far more than the $50,000 or so each club loses from hosting 2 of these games
dont know why there is a debate here
richardson doesnt want MNF to end, hes not stupid
he is pushing gallop for more money
thats all this is about

| Ok lets look at those specific games shall we
Dogs v Wests Rd1 Monday night this season Att 26,737
Previous seasons: 2010 Fri night 11,837 2009 Sun afternoon 25,622
Sths V St;s Rd6 Monday night this season Att 22,771
Previous seasons: 2010 Fri night 22,238 2009 Sat afternoon 19,218
So there you go, once again the FACTS show that playing those fixtures on a Monday night not only did not cause them to lose money but actually brought in BIGGER crowds! Damn these things called Facts for making CEO's look like they are clearly peddling other agendas!

There isnt, at least not about MNF, you and JB have just ended it.

Yep, the remarks were aimed at the folks negotiating the TV rights deal imho. If the Networks want it, they're gonna have to pay for it.

Thanks JB, other variables aside, you appear to be correct.
You're also inadvertently proving that NRL CEOs are liars (when it comes to attendances in particular). I reckon you should highlight this to the media!!!

1883.jpg Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

| RB, don't you think it is a classic case of doing business via the media. Whine like feck about MNF costing big shillings in the full knowledge it is a Pay TV golden goose and one the TV companies will break their back trying to keep.
I'll bet Gallop was grinning ear-to-ear when he saw these articles.

| The slow march towards rugby league's independent commission has stalled negotiations for the NRL rights.
What's the hold up? How hard can it be to get people in place...especially when the NRL knew it was going to happen.

It could well be getdown.
Thing is, NRL clubs do not like playing on a Monday. End of. Maybe they are trying to use money as an argument to get rid of it. But they won't succeed as JB points out, because they rate highly on TV and will be part of an increased TV deal.
I still suspect there are genuine concerns about attendances on Monday nights from the clubs re monies, but JB has pointed out that their comments don't appear to be 100% accurate. So they are deliberately misleading, are lying, or don't know what they're on about. It can't be the latter, surely.

As has been said before, Stats/FACTS can be used to suit any argument:
In 2010 a total of 3,149,927 fans, over 192 regular season games, attended the NRL. This gives an average of 16,406.
In 2010, there were 23 games of MNF.
In total, 296,703 fans walked through the gates for MNF at an average of 12,900 a game.
The remaining 2,853,224 fans split over 169 games gives an average of 16,883 a game
So, over the 2010 season, the general result is that you lose about 4,000 fans a game when it's played on a Monday. At $45 a ticket, this adds up over a season to over $4,000,000 in lost ticket sales...or just over $250k a club. If clubs work on residual sales (beer/shirts/food) etc being the same again, then it could be argued that Souths figure of $205,000 for one game isn't that far off the mark.
The biggest losers in 2010 were Brisbane (1gm/8,546), the Roosters(2gm/16,776) and the Dogs (1gm/6,686) with the Bunnies bing the biggest winners (2gm/5,098 Increase)
BTW....How come NthQld and the Warriors didn't play Monday night footie last year
