| Ive always wondered why we cant ask Simon Moran for a bit of help with this. Surely it would be for the good of the game if we could get a good advertising and marketing campaign, and he does concerts for some of the biggest in the world ... Wish he would pull some strings

| i also noticed on another thread you recently mentioned remembering how the widnes board went into meltdown when crusaders got the nod in the last round of franchise decisions. which was certainly before the 18th of feb 2010

And thats where this forum is quite clever.
There is this remarkable option where you can search back through topics made many years ago and read all about them.
I was reading how some of the Crusaders were deported the other day.

Its a shame because all the clubs seem to be able to market themselves well, but this isnt backed up by the RFL/Sky

isnt that the problem tho? the third link is merely a parody of the second link. what do any of the clubs in England, at any level, have to use as a foundation for their marketing?
when harlequins were restructured etc last year, one of the commitments they wanted from the RFL was assistance in marketing RL, rather than Quins themselves having to bear that burden.

| The problem with virals is that it is an even less exact science than getting an ad on TV. The overall cost of putting together and publicising a viral may be less than putting an ad on TV, but your Return on Investment might not make it cost effective. Its nearly impossible to predict the success of a viral and its difficult for them to be a success at all, so there's a strong chance that it could be a waste of money. Its also difficult to demonstrate the benefit of the ad, e.g how many people bought a ticket as a result of watching a viral. I would imagine this is the reason why the RFL doesn't go chucking money about on adverts. It has a solid bedrock of followers, which will turn up to marquee events as well as turn out regularly for theirs clubs, so does it need to spend money trying to appeal to new punters when it might not see an ROI?
The "They're Coming!" scheme has been brilliant so far and very encouraging that the RFL are taking on board new ideas of marketing. The costs have been minimal; slide for big screen, five hired actors, five robes, an emblem design and a photo shoot. They've used Sky Sports coverage and the SL website so far, which keeps costs down, but does mean they're only appealing to hardened fans. However, for a relatively little bit of money they've achieved high visibility and because they haven't launched it or said its the Exiles, its created a good amount of excitement and gotten folk talking.
