Little Pepe went to nursery school one day wearing his Widnes hat. His teacher asked him why he was a Widnes fan. He said, “Because my parents are.” His teacher said, “That’s not good. What would you do if your parents were drug dealers and hookers?” He replied, “Well then I would be a Warrington fan.”

But the Vikings have tried to blood young, British players, as per the advice of the RFL. Whereas other clubs have gone down the old campaigner route, which tends to be the most competitive way of doing it. But there is no long term gain for the game going down this route, so wining the GF with old heads may not be as important to the RFL as being competitive enough to play in two finals in two seasons while giving youth a chance.
So it is fair to say that Barrow and Halifax have put everything into the first team. Is this not something the RFL have wanted to change and a stated reason for introducing the licence system in the first place?

Most of your posters blame injuries for giving younger players a chance and then blaming this for a poor league placing.
But thats by the by, Fax and Widnes should be going up in March/July with Wakey and Cas coming down.

Why the hell should Cas be demoted?
Purely because of the quality of stadia? Look outside the box for crying out loud!

Injuries were a major factor for us last season. I have never seen anything like it in all my years of watching my club.
Even injury free, I still think Fax and Fev would have contested the GF. I think we would have finished higher up the league though, and probably would have won the NRC again. We only seemed to bring in young, up and coming youngsters and used the, less that perfect, dual-reg system to the hilt. There was far too much disruption for us to have been as competitive as we would have liked.

well, no.
for the purposes of eligibility to apply, the NRC and Grand Final carry equal weight. you cant apply 'more' if you win the play offs rather than the cup.
and whilst on field success is one of the criteria lets be clear, widnes have reached as many finals in the same time period wether its grand final or cup is pretty much insignificant.
although you could argue if you really wanted to that fax stump widnes in the on field success stakes (which is open to debate) they certainly dont in any other regard.

Need to change it in SL first without worrying about the Championships. We are like SL child, different quota system, different results point system. Look how good the championships are with them two factors and an achievable salary cap. Heres an idea maybe they should introduce some of that to SL.

In the sense that you have to win the NRC to apply where as reaching the GF is enough? Seems the RFL dont agree with you.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

It isn't the Championships clubs responsibility to try to produce International quality players to the detriment of the competition , Widnes were given a clear message , " tick the box and you are in " they did this , and there is nothing wrong with that , all I have done on this thread is answer simple question honestly , you will get the SL place , quite correctly with the ' rules ' we currently have , as you know IMO those rules are wrong , but I don't make the rules

I agree that the RFL should look at ensuring that the same systems and rules apply to both leagues whenever possible. However, the RFL say that the Championship clubs themselves want to keep the quota and point systems in place, so what can you do?
The £300k quota is the real problem for any ambitious Championship club. It may make the competition more competitive, but it brings down the entire fleets progress down to the slowest vessel. It also widens the gap between the Championship and Super League. Far from being as exciting as it should be, the quality has suffered imo, and the comp has been downgraded. This is a worse situation than the quota and points systems. Any growing of the gap, between SL and the Championship, makes so much more difficult for the stronger clubs to move up a division and makes it easier for the RFL to pull up the drawbridge on us in the future.

Is it working ?
How many International or even SL players will be produced by the Championship clubs ( through their full youth system ) ?
Is it working in SL ?

Wether it is 100 K , 300 K or 600 K it is irrelevant , in fact if the rumours are correct , it will get even worse next season if the mess about with the Championships
Enjoy your last few months as a Championship club

I don't like the licence system, but I don't recall any of that being a stated aim of the RFL when setting it up.
Steve O'Connor has made it clear that he has followed the instructions of the RFL to the letter. He still had to achieve the goals they set out for him to follow in order to get the promised Championship licence, and he has achieved them all – and more!
Whether that is enough will remain to be seen. I cannot see how it can’t be enough. That’s not arrogance but confidence in what we can offer Super League compared to several other clubs.
