Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

Widnes's home support [ not away fans ] will increase between 50 and 100 % depending on who they are playing and how well they do
So around 3,500 at present to around 5,500/7,000 , they will average around 8,200 in 2012
That will potentially grow to over 10,000 over 5 years

Little Pepe went to nursery school one day wearing his Widnes hat. His teacher asked him why he was a Widnes fan. He said, “Because my parents are.” His teacher said, “That’s not good. What would you do if your parents were drug dealers and hookers?” He replied, “Well then I would be a Warrington fan.”

Widnes do not get 2,000ish and never have. We get 3,000ish. The rest is lazy, and ill thought out crud. When did Widnes ever average 2,000ish?
If Widnes increased 10% ish on only 2,000ish that would put our home support against clubs like London at only 2,200ish. If it did so on 3,000ish, that would be 3,300ish.
So how do you explain this?
Widnes v London: 2002 (5,182) - 2003 (5,009) - 2004 (4,829) - 2005 (5,996)
Total over 4 years: 21,016
Average 5,204
Almost all will be Widnes fans. I would say that’s a lot more than 10%. Based on that, our overall SL averages would show away following at far less than 90% and more like 30%.
Widnes SL average attendance:
2002 - (6510) - 2003 (6511) - 2004 (6153) - 2005 (6794)
Nothing you have written adds up, therefore I can only conclude that you are talking complete sh\te.

So not much hope for Toulouse then? As by your reckoning they have exhausted local fan base, will only get away fans from Catalan so looking at a SL average of 1,000 maximum? Might as well not bother eh

I think (and hope) that when Widnes are in Super League in 2012, they will progress like Wire have, big backer, nice stadium, good fanbase, all they need is the players and by all accounts the youth set up is good at Widnes.
I reckon you will progress to average 10k+.

I was speaking with someone the other day who told me Widnes's stadium is superb.
Is it?
Never been there myself (and probably never will now)

We already ad a great stadium with good infrastructure but, since SOC took over, there has been a great deal of building work within the stadium which takes it’s infrastructure far beyond most clubs currently in Super League.
This includes:
- A state of the art Gym
- Briefing room, with individual player tracking video
- Treatment room
- New locker rooms
- Player ‘chillout area’
- Press area, with online capability
The club is also adding a new TV gantry and interview area in the North Stand. Work is due to start soon on this.
Here’s the old licence bid DVD, which will give you a better idea:

thanks for the compliments - does seem strange that so much loyal support isn't apparent in the Championship ! If you support your team then, you support your team, don't you ? To take a football analogy, when the mighty Man City went down to the old third division the supporters remained loyal, the same with little old Norwich City who still managed managed crowds of twenty thousand or last season - that's loyalty ! not 2000 ish when the team are playing at a lower level and 10000 when the going is better - REAL supporters follow their teams through thick & thin - fans of Widnes(and TO) and the like are a fickle bunch.

But we're still the best supported club in the Championship.
This is a Championship whose competition has been so devalued that clubs are losing fans, with some clubs going to the wall. If people don’t get excited about the competition, they won’t turn up to watch the games played within it. Widnes has lost about 800 fans since the licensing era began.
I would suggest that, in order to stop yourself looking ignorant and foolish, you actually try a little research into what you are writing about before delivering your crooked verdict.

well done Pepe, you've obviously done your homework on Wikipedia - I'm not questioning the size of the crowd just the percentage of these fantastic figures that represent actual Widnes fans ! The London figures are pretty meaningless as lots of neutral southern softies like me would go along to support the London team.I'm sure you would have noticed quite a sizeable southern presence in northern england ?
Please explain to me - where have these loyal Viking fans been in 2009 ² 2010 ? and how much do you think the Widnes home gates will be affected next season before they enter SL ?
I suggest it's you that's talking absolute twaddle and nothing you have stated has explained the missing thousands over the past two seasons - either you are a true fan,or not ?

That's all any club can hope for in this league. Having a hardcore of over 3,000 is very good in this sport, especially when the club has been in the wilderness for the last 6 years.
If you actually think any club, under the same circumstances would have anything other than their hardcore of fans left, you really are as deluded and thick as you are coming across.
