if england or nz could give the roos a similar type of competition as you get in origin then international RL could be the pinnacle
An origin game gets 3.3 million people watching
the best RL test matches will get 1 - 1.5 million people watching
pretty clear to me.
the only RL event which gets close to origin is the grand final.

Why oh why can't RL market the game properly,I mean FFS the product is there and I know it's only Aus v PNG but it is the 4 Nations.
This is supposed to be the pinnacle of RL in the only International tournament of the year, for God's sake I wish they could promote the game properly for a change, when will they ever learn.
It just shows what a great game RL is .............it's survived 115 years of mismanagement by kn**head administrators

I genuinely don't know how you have the inclination never mind the balls to type that with New Zealand being world champions

Yes, it's a very bad thing for business. You make money by offering less for more, not more for less. The fact you can't understand this doesn't surprise me. It's great for one party. It's terrible for the other.

You cant judge the quality of a side on the back of one or 2 upsets.
The Kangaroos are the best side on the planet right now. Thats a fact.
The RLIF rankings prove it as well.

I'm sure the RLIF rankings are a great comfort to the Kangaroo players every time they look at their World Cup runners up medals
History doesn't remember world rankings, history remembers winners... in 20 or 30 years time, the New Zealand team from 2008 will be able to show their children and grandchildren their World Cup winners medals. Whether you refuse to believe it or not, I guarantee that every member of that Australian World Cup losing team would swap the RLIF rankings for a winners medal

So, you do agree with me then?
I was thinking, seeing as though you profess to have the inside track on the international Rugby League scene, maybe you could suggest to the Australian 2008 World Cup squad that they print out the RLIF rankings from Wikipedia and frame the page. Then in 30 or so years time, when the New Zealand team show their Grand children their world cup winning medals, the Australian squad can show theirs the RLIF rankings from the time and say that Barry McKenzie said “You can’t judge the quality of a side on the back of one or 2 upsets”, we were the best team

Barry McKenzie does wholeheartedly agree with you that "History doesn't remember world rankings, history remembers winners"
And I'm sure the 2008 Kangaroos would have liked to have been World Champions on that night in Brisbane in 2008.
But I'm sure a good few of them will still be in the Aussie side that beats NZ in the 2013 final

It might be in the quality shown.
But surely the ideal pinnacle of the game is the International game.
Come on Dally surely you can see this.

Personally, I think Origin lost its edge when they started to referee it like a ‘normal’ game. Origin was always that bit more brutal than the week to week stuff but the referees clamped down* and now it’s similar to a high quality first grade game. I’m sure it still matters to people from NSW and Queensland and I will still watch it but it has lost something which (I hope) international League can replace
* and the they stopped stapling people’s heads back together on the pitch
