| I have been desperately trying to surpress this opinion but.....
We (Leeds) must be overwhelming favourites yet again this year and I think it will take a huge effort to stop us for a 4th consecutive title. Only Smith left from last years' squad, Eastwood, Delaney & a fit Buderus added. Talented hungry young British players like Amor, Pitts and Coady added not to mention further emergence of quality juniors like Jones Bishop, Kallum Watkins, Dane manning & others.
Of course much can happen in terms of injuries and form and the playoffs are knockout football (eventually) but I am as confident as any fan can be in the middle of January that this will be our year yet again.

| This leeds team has the potential to be the greatest SL team in history.
Am I right in thinking Saints in 06 and Bradford in 03 had more foreigners in their squads?

They need to win every trophy to do that, and not get knocked out of the cup (quite early on in most years).
They have the chance to be the first team to win all four major trophies in one year. If they do that, then they're the greatest to me.

| I judge it very differently personally.
I judge it on what I watch, the standard of play.
That's why I viewed the 06 Saints team as better than the 03 Bradford side, imo they were a classier team.
People ridicule Eddies yapping but '10 probably will be the most competitive SL ever with possibly 8 very strong clubs but Leeds: they'll rise even further to be head and shoulders above again come final day.

| I have no doubt Leeds are the best team and will finish top but they can be beat in a one off game and therefore may not end up Champions.
Wigan have beat them quite frequently home and away in recent years and do not fear them at all.

| The Saints team in 06 were unstoppable in the sense that they never lost first place all season if i remember however im sure in 03 Leeds spent longer in first than Bradford? Bradford had it when it mattered but they weren't unstoppable by any means

Well in that instance you have compared two teams that won exactly the same trophies, so obviously you'd have to judge it on something else there.
Would you say the Bradford 03 side that won everything they entered was better than this years Leeds team that won the GF and LLS but was knocked out at the first hurdle of the cup?

| Leeds I thought played in second gear for most of this year, possibly because they could do but to truly call a team the greatest of the summer era I'd want to see more over a season.
They did get knocked out by Saints tbf and it would be nice to see them add a challenge cup to their cabinet.
I'd say currently they rank behind the two other candidates (more eras rather than specific seasons - teams seem to have a couple of years together before being broken up), but have the potential to be the greatest. They don't necessarily have to win all trophies that year in my opinion, people tend to pick a defining season of a teams mini era if you will.
I thought Saints were actually better in 05 before suffering that terrible injury run at the end of the year for example but 06 defined that team.

Does creating history by winning the Grand Final a 3rd consecutive time not create a greater acheivement than winning 5 games in a cup comp?

| Possibly but for me it's how they went about it.
Leeds looked bloody ordinary to me for long periods of this year

| Leeds looked average for a lot of last year because they identified the right time to peak in form during the season. There is no point playing your best footy during the start of he season as it achieves nothing but a better points difference. I would base the greatest team on trophys won, not how well you play during the regular rounds.

| I said that above.
However I judge on what I see in a team personally, everyone does to an extent, it's why we have different opinions

So would you say a certain team was better if they won all their super league games in style, and playing flashy rugby, rather than a team grinding out wins but ultimately getting the main prize at the end of the season?

Did they do that all in one season? No.
In two of them seasons, did they finish top? No.
In two of them seasons, did they get BEATEN in the play-offs by the team that finished top? Yes.
They are the first team to win 3 consecutive finals. That is an achievement. But two of them seasons they got beaten to the top of the league AND in the play-offs by a team that also won 3 consecutive finals (although this in the Challenge Cup). I personally don't think Leeds were the best team in the league the first two years, which is why they made such a deal about wanting to win the LLS.
I think it's more impressive to do it all at once than it is to do the same thing consecutively. It's easier to peak for one competition every year than it is for all of them.
Also, when you are talking exclusively about one team in one season, the previous seasons shouldn't come into it. In 2009, Leeds won two trophies. In 2006, Saints won three. Otherwise, in 2008, Saints won two trophies, and one was for the 3rd time in a row, the other for the 4th. Which one is more impressive?
