why isnt there the same amount of threads on Wakefields plight?
how come on the limited amount there is on Wakefields problems everybody is accepting how sad it is they are struggling and nobody is using it as a reason RL will never work in West Yorkshire?'"
I think you’ll find, as soon as there are any problems at Wakefield, either financial or quota related, then, a certain poster gleefully comes on here to herald the news.
Anyhow, surely there’s a difference between a club facing a tax bill, and one relocating god knows how far away from the area of its ‘grass roots’.
I would feel quote sorry for the Celtic fans who have taken to the game, however the amount of gloating by certain posters when the licences were dished out, was totally out of order.
The gulf between the expansionists & traditionalists is as wide as ever, but at least the traditionalist can now have a wry smile & say ‘told you it wouldn’t work in South Wales’.
It’s a shame Bridgend’s not the Capital, it could have limped on for a fair few years yet.

The fact is hasn't worked in South Wales to date is because we're being run by a bunch of amateurs and our money man wants no more to do with it, or cannot have any more to do with us through lack of money. Simple as that really. If we had better people on board who didn't drop clangers like the VISA rubbish and numerous other things then we might have a bit of credit for things like junior development. As it is mud sticks and people only remember the bad things.
The facts outside of the bad running of this club are a lot of youngsters coming through, quite a few of those youngsters a part of the European Cup winning Wales squad, a 3,668 average who watched a team that wasn't that great by any stretch of the imagination. There are also around 20 times as many schools now taking part in competitive games against one another in comparison to 3 years ago. This is mainly due to Crusaders work in the community. As I say take away the bad running of this club and we have done ok. Not outstanding in some areas, I'll be the first to admit, but we've done very well in others and it's been far from a failure apart from the running of the club and Leighton Samuel wanting out.
I just hope we can find some South Wales organisation that will pump money in and can keep us down here to continue the good work.

and how many of them were away fans. with only a 100 season tickets sold and a few free entry there was no way it could work a shame but that is the top and bottom of it. they were not ready for sl and the main blame goes to lewis who fell to the blackmail of LS

Does anybody know why he wants out? Surely whatever the club has lost (or whatever funding was required) a successful businessman could have predicted?

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

How many times , sport has nothing to do with successful business or successful businessmen , add to that a reccession like the one we are currently in and all rules go out the window , it can take years to make a fortune , but one second to lose one , as soon as the decision to get involved in proffessional sport is made all is at risk

And where did you get the 100 figure from?
When it comes down to it we would have had the same as any other club with regards to away fans. In fact heartland clubs, you could argue, will see more fans travelling as it is easier and quicker to get to and from away games.

If the management is as bad as you claim it to be, and circumstantial evidence supports your view, it does make me wonder what the "auditors" of the license applications actually did.

| To be fair the bad management of the club wasn't so as glaringly obvious in the lower leagues.
That is one shining light of Leighton Samuel wanting out. If he does go the new people should bring in their own staff who will have to go some to get anywhere near as bad as the current lot.

i actually think the forum is becomming more expansion orientated.
i used to write it off as populated by people with closed minds, and small towns with no vision of the future
ive been happily surprised lately to see so many people who think about whats good for RL, not just their own little failed club

Thr RFL took a big risk with Celtic at the expense (at the time) of a ready made SL club. ScallyWags is merely saying that's not how it should be done. I've made my own feelings on this known in other threads - if we want expansion to work we've got to have patience and a lot of cash - something which nobody seems to have had with the Celtic saga.'"
so widnes werent more of a risk at the time

yet previously when asked the difference between heartland and expansion clubs said at least heartland clubs always had succesful businessmen to bail them out
