| By playing Wellens your hoping a) the Aussies / Kiwis dont make many breaks and b) they kick from deep.
Everytime it comes to the international field Wellens is found out on the grounds that generally for GB / Eng the above doesn't happen.
I think Briscoe is the best shot we have but his one and one tackling has always being suspect for me.

| Maybe not on the Slater scale but Briscoe is not exactly slow, when he does get away he can motor and its not like having a winger playing full back i.e. Richards/Hicks.
Mathers I wont disagree has had a pretty decent year but for England I dont think we'll find someone safer than Shaun that still possess some speed.
As for Wellens' two try saving tackles, maybe try taking note of the week after week try saving tackles Brisk does, practically won Rovers numerous games by his tackling tenacity and yes more often than not one on one tackles.
Long term I think we will be looking at Owen however he's plenty to learn and would have been brilliant to have him in the train on squad just for the experience of learning from other full backs.
Only other player I'd like to see there would be Sykes who impressed early on in the season playing there.

| Just on Lee Smith....
I have never seen a so unbelievably poor player who get so many wraps like he is a good player.
What does he actually have that makes people think he is good?
Did any of you watch the World Cup? He wasn't average. He wasn't bad. He was a disaster!

He's not a full back IMO he's a winger that can mature into a centre. But Bluey knows more than me and I'm sure his new coach will utilise him however he see's best too.

| Nick hkr - Smith is a full back not a winger. He played on the wing for Leeds because that was where he could get a game. He's a full back and could have been a good British one. Now we'll never know.

| Quote: Saddened! "The daft thing is that Paul Wellens is still comfortably the best English fullback in Super League at club level.
Add in the fact we've got no wingers or centres either and it's looking as bad as ever.
If we had Davies, Hunte, Offiah, Newlove and Connolly we might keep them to 30.'"
No way - Briscoe can do everything to the same level Wellens can, + he's more useful in attack, Briscoe's better overall IMO.

| Hate to say this but League Freak is right about Smith, very overated his whole career is living off the back of his MOM performance from the grand final last year, apart from that he has never played like that before...............................its amazing wha those T5's can do in one off games!!!!!!
