'when my life is over, the thing which will have given me greatest pride is that I was first to plunge into the sea, swimming freely underwater without any connection to the terrestrial world'
Yves Le Prieur, the real inventor of the aqualung: |
|
| Quote: MrPhilb "£4000 Fine, £2000 of which is suspended until the end of the season
Morgan handed £4,000 fine for referee comments
Hull KR coach Justin Morgan has been fined £4,000 after he was found guilty by an RFL Operational Rules Tribunal of misconduct and breaching the RFL’s RESPECT policy.
Morgan must pay half of the fine within the next 28 days whilst the remaining £2,000 will be suspended until the end of the season and will only be paid if he is convicted of a similar offence.
Should Morgan fail to pay the fine, which will go towards the RFL's RESPECT campaign, within 28 days then he will be suspended. He will then only be allowed back to work once it is paid.
The fine follows comments made by Morgan about match official Ben Thaler on Easter Monday at the conclusion of the match between Hull KR and Huddersfield Giants.
The RFL Operational Rules state that it is an offence for any Club official to criticise the character or manner in which a referee has controlled a game in which a Club has taken part in.
At the hearing Jim Spencer, Chairman of the RFL Operational Rules Tribunal, said
Its about time the RESPECT was reciprical, the RFL show none to the fans or players by churning out sub-standard referees.

and of course YOU can do better!
What is THE standard for match officials?
Do you REALLY know, cos I don't and will openly admit it, but I DO KNOW they are human, make mistakes and are impartial.
If you or Mr Morgan cannot cope with that then it is YOUR problem to deal with.
He dealt with it in his way and was penalised for it.
You have the luxury of these forums.
In his position he should lead by example and if that is by any definition a good example then fine, the game will go to the dogs and if thats what people want then so be it.

when players make mistakes they get paid less and abuse from fans
when coaches make mistakes they get the sack and abuse from fans
when referees make mistakes they get appointed to the the finals and big games (and abuse from fans)

| Morgan made his cheap-shot comments in the full knowledge that the referee had absolutely no right of reply.
There are established channels to direct criticism of match officials, any coach or player who decides to take the cowards option deserves a fine.

I can't find any mention of what Morgan has said about the offence, in the cold light of day. It would be nice to think that after time for reflection, he had come to realise what a pathetic, cowardly asshole he had been, put his toys back in his pram, and profusely apologised to the referee and the RFL for acting like a cross between a spoilt child and a drunken boor.

The difference being coaches and players are there to win games. Referees can't win, therefore will always get stick.

Justin has done all the other coaches a favour, he's had the bottle to come out and say things aren't good enough. Its cost him a few quid but sso what he's got his gripe across publically and now hopefully cummings has to do something about it instead of the hush hush correct approach which gets you nowhere

So he coaches whiter than white and the players play the same so when your team loses it not cos they are bad, useless or make mistakes its down to the match officials.
Come on I set the challange
WHAT IS THE STANDARD OF A MATCH OFFICIAL?
I openly admit I do not have a clue. I could give an educated guess but seeing as so many who post on these forums seem to "know", put your views in.
I guarantee that there WILL NOT be concensus.

He pretty much guaranteed that action could not be taken. In the highly unlikely case of an objective review of the refereeing performance agreeing with his rant, that is.

| I was at this game and was surprised by his outburst. Like someone has already said it was bordering on personal whch is clearly unacceptable. The crowd were on Thalers back from even before the game started and it continued right throughout. It's almost as though Morgan reacted to the fans shouts and didn;t watch the game. One of his comments said that Thaler was consistenly substandatd and yet two weeks ago in the match against Celtic, he praised him highly. Bit of inconcistency there. The fans have never forgiven Thaler for his penalty try decision last year at Wakefield and continue to get on his back. They either don't want to or are unable to move on. Personally, as a season ticket holding Rovers supporter who knows that the video of the Huddersfield game paints a completely different picture to that painted by both the Fans and Morgan, it's embarassing and very disappointing that he chose to do this.
The problem is that now that Morgan has voiced the same things that the fans have been shouting he has given credence to their arguements regardless of them being correct or not. I suggest they watch the video and try and come up with examples as I;m avsolutely positive they won't find any real ones.

I applaud your post. referees often get it in the neck from fans often unjustifiably or sometimes to influence them to make decisions one way or another. In most cases this does not work. how often do fans chant off off when a player gets pinged for a bad tackle. If the refs followed the fans all the time then the game would be determined by the fans who shout the loudest.
I have chanted against the ref once and thought he was biased and diabolical i then went home watched the game on SKY saw that he was about 95% right and i was wrong. I apologised to the ref by starting a thread on our board.
If we allow crowds or coaches or player to intimidate refs then the game will have no real future. For that reason alone i am glad that the RFL made such a strong statement.

I'd reckon most of them were as embarrassed as most of us

You're deluded! Morgan has rightly been hauled over the coals for being totally out of order, and it ends there! Why would "Cummings have to do something about it"? It's Morgan who was, and has been found to be, 100% in the wrong!

| £4,000 with £2k suspended.......money well spent as fas as Morgan and HKR are concerned.
What are the odds on thaler not getting a game featuring HKR for the rest of the season?
If I were cummings, I would appoint Thaler for every HKR game until he gets a full, public and sincere apology from Morgan.
It is outragous that this year, as part of the respect campaign, fans can be banned for life for berrating the officials, but this tw@ get's a smack on the wrist and is not asked to apologise to his victim of his cowardly abuse.
The RFL should have banned him from even being present at at least 5 games and given him a final warning.
