| How long do we think this has been in the pipeline? Good timing of the announcement (or leak) from a club and sky point of view as most people have already bought their season tickets!

what difference does that make to anything ?
the reason MNF was brought in by SKY all those years ago (with the pre match firework displays and all) was because they saw monday evening as a 'dead' evening for the sportsfan in addition to being the day back at work after the weekend when most people are as miserable as sin with nothing but the working week to look forward to.
MNF was seen as an innovation and it certainly worked for me and obviously for SKY tv whose viewing figures were given a nice boost on an otherwise dead night for them.
As Jonny said, let's give it a try before we criticise it !

Ah, so absolutely nothing like you originally said. You were just being a cynic again (surprise) and painting a bad picture for your own self gratification.
Quote: Starbug "Maybe we'll get local games like we got, Barrow at Leigh, or Leigh at Sheffield, or just pick all the biggest matches like us and Widnes,Fax and Fev

Baring in mind that you only have one TV slot, they'll usually pick the more attractive games to the viewer. We have two, so it's more workable. Doesn't mean they'll do it, but they're in a better position to.
Sometimes I think you'd be better off just watching the amateur game, personally.

I don't think I criticised it did I?
My point was why haven't Sky announced it earlier and only when the clubs have already got fan's cash from season ticket sales.

It is exactly as I originally posted, lots of moaning and groaning going on , my reply was to your suggestion of local matches, I was just pointing out that SKY dont give a stuff about arranging local matches on Thursdays
As for watching just the amatuer game, why ?

not saying you did criticise (and no offence intended) but it was just a general point to everyone to give it a chance and see if it works, just backing up Jonny the leythers point.
regarding the season tickets etc - the last thing SKY is interested in is the humble fan - as I said earlier all SKY want to do is put bums on living room seats - seems good business to me as I am already looking forward to the monday night games being a predominantly armchair fan nowadays.
the MNRL won't make that much difference to the average fan,if any at all,t's similar to a friday night game for the travelling fan if it's an away fixture but shouldn't affect the vast majority of home fans although there will always be a few who will be inconvenienced

No, you were saying people were being hypocrites. Your second one wasn't implying that at all, and were genuine and justified reasons people were thinking.

Because you seem to complain about EVERYTHING that happens in the pro game. Expansion. Sponsorship. TV deals. Developments. There is nothing that makes you happy.
If you watch the amateur game, you can be happy that it's just to do with what happens on the field, just like RU pre-1995.

I'm certainly not complaining about this, I think its hilarious, I'll stop complaining about the RFLs dealings with the Championships when they start actually engaging their brains efore making the decisions

| Personally I'd prefer Monday night games to Sunday games, hate Sunday games. Obviously this isn't the same for everyone though, but you can't please everyone.
Not just that but I'd be more likely to watch a neutral game on a Monday than over the weekend.
It's worth a try, if it gets sky to give RL and extra promotional push, it might be worth it in the long run. It can't hurt to try.

| Monday night is a great night for SL teams and fans alike, plus it will accelerate the expansion of the game.

| That'll be me getting no work done Friday and Monday afternoons now.
We used to have loads of mid week kick offs back when it was winter rugby. I don’t remember folk complaining and not showing up back then. In fact mid week night games used to be my favourite as a nipper. Always a great atmosphere.

| Absolute disaster for me. I work 16 hours Monday and Tuesday. This will mean I miss out on even more rugby. I'm sick of paying for everyone elses sport with sky. If its extra to a Saturday game I don't mind but as a replacement no thank you.

| Took a while to take off in Aus, but it's a massive game for Pay TV and 8 out of 10 times ends up being the game of the round.
Yeah the crowds suffer but sometimes the crowds surprise you too, I remember the roosters getting stuff all people to the games in the late 90's (as usual) and their monday night game had over 35,000 turn up against the out of town Broncos.
The TV ratings out here speak for themselves, for a while there, every Monday night footy match was a pay TV record, now I'm not saying RL can do that in England obviously with Soccer being king, but instead of 250,000 watching on a Friday or Saturday, you could be heading towards the 350 400 mark on a Monday.
If it takes off for sky, who's to say they won't give you 3 games a week on TV instead of 2?
Who's to say they won't pay millions more in the next TV deal to keep it, and if it is a raging success, who's to say a FTA station won't look at it like what's happening out here?
One other thing, Monday night footy out here looks where the teams are located, that's why we have never had a Warriors home game and Brisbane, NTH QLD very rarely get them.
Sky want maximum exposer and bang for their buck, they aren't going to do something like this with the thought of damaging the game on in the back of their mind.
Give it a chance, Mondays will never be the same again.

| Fine by me, interested to see how it pans out.
Friday nights under lights used to feel a bit special when it was a once in a blue moon affair. It didn't matter that it was on TV because I'd go anyway just to watch RL under lights, which I've always loved and used to feel like more of an event than yer average Sunday afternoon game. Sorting out transport and getting out of work early to make the trip was worth it. I've long since stopped attending Friday night away games now that it's become almost a standard. I doubt I'm going to make the effort on Monday nights either.
There's a large TV sports audience on Monday nights though and I'm curious to see the effect on viewing figures.
