Quote Barry_McKenzie="Barry_McKenzie"Barry McKenzie has always endorsed helping out poorer nations.
If I see someone standing at the exit of my local supermarket collecting money for Africans with no water I will always donate.
Last November I put some money in the poppy appeal can some guy was holding.
I always donate to the RSPCA.
I'm lucky in that I earn big bucks off the Poms working over here in London so I can afford to give generously to your charities. It makes me feel good. I like to help out. Its the kind of guy I am. I live to give.
But I'm not entirely supportive of the NRL's seemingly recent policy of employing Poms in the NRL. If rumours are to be belived we may have THREE of them playing in the best league in the world next season.
There will be Ellis.....ummmm that guy who no one has ever heard of who has also joined the Tigers....and someone called Burgess (who I must admit I had never heard of until I started reading these forums).
As I've said I'm all for helping developing nations.....but somehow I think that having more than just one token pom in the NRL is a bit wrong.
I fully appreciate the fact we have to help these people out....but I'm not sure this is the best policy.
I would be more inclined to take on more PNG players ready for when we allow a PNG side into the NRL rather than go for the comedy value of hiring Poms.'"
I don't blame you for thinking the way you do.
Many moons ago you decided to let another "emerging" nations players come into your sacred NRL, in the end you actually let them have a team in the comp! Then that fateful day......Saturday November 22nd, 2008........New Zealand 34 Australia 20.
Your fears are well founded!
