Is a bit silly that chip shop but IIRC they stopped selling alcohol a few months ago, something about attracting the wrong type of people funnily enough.

That happened to me with Sheffield, even though people such as my friends from my hometown who have never lived there don't like it.

| Here's my opinion for what its worth......
I have to be honest, i sadly heeded the word of others, and avoided going to Hull for a good number of years. It was only three seasons ago that i decided to bite the bullet and find out for myself, and have subsequently been to every away game at the KC and Craven Park.
What i found was a very pleasant, friendly place, with a decent amount of cultural and historical interest. I also found a large number of great venues for my pre and post match beverages. This cant be said of a lot of other away trips in towns that get far less bad press.
I'm sure it has had its problems, and continues to do so. But show me a city/town in the North of England that doesn't. It seems to me that as a city, Hull is doing an awful lot to try and address these issues, and seems to have achieved a lot already.
It has rapidly become one of my favourite away trips, and I'm already looking forward to the opening game of next season.

| I hate going to Hull, sick of seeing Salford getting beat there.

possibly, in the same way that had it been awarded to London, you could have had one with a building on fire and looters surrounding it. We didn't have any trouble here. None at all. We had to send our police down to London to help out.
Its a wonderful city, an absolute hidden gem. No pretence at all, just sincerity. I am PROUD to be from Hull. I moved to Leeds this year to be with my partner and I miss Hull every day. Seeing the Humber bridge on the train journey back brings a smile to my face every time. I'm home.

Thats a shame it came in handy for the train ride back to Manchester. A bag of chips and a couple of cans used to be standard on the way home from Hull!!!

Nice.
'London'. Which bit?
It's got the population of a small country and covers an area that would swallow Leeds/Bradford/Manchester/Sheffield and all the space in between.
You can't compare Hull to London unless you're an idiot.

| Hull is a great place with, of course, all the problems of any large city. There is, however, a great social and cultural scene here, especially around the Old Town, High Street and the Marina.
I know many people from all parts of the UK who have moved to the city through university or work who have made their home here and wouldn't live anywhere else. In the words of Philip Larkin
"Hull has its own sudden elegancies. People are slow to leave it, quick to return. And there are others who come, as they think, for a year or two, and stay a lifetime, sensing that they have found a city that is in the world yet sufficiently on the edge of it to have a different resonance."
Possibly Hull in the past hasn't blown its own trumpet enough, hopefully the City of Culture status will change that.
This is the official video that helped us unanimously win the title.

Probably rugby league supporters visiting the area get the wrong impression, Anlaby Road and Preston Road areas aren't the most attractive parts of the city. People who take the time to explore will find much to be impressed. There is culture if you know where to look for it!
