| Quote: Andy Gilder "The issue with Clarke's comments on the McGuire injury was his implication in his Sky Sports column that Danny in some way "deserved" an injury that required a knee reconstruction, simply for committing a professional foul against his beloved Wigan.
Coming from someone who had his own career ended prematurely by injury, the hypocrisy of it was sickening.'"
Correct.

| Still makes me laugh, Leeds fans all huffily precious and self-righteous about that McGuire injury and the subsequent reaction. If he hadn't illegally dragged Carmont down off the ball, he wouldn't have suffered the injury. He caused it, no-one else, and he caused it through an illegal act at a crucial moment one might deem cheating.
I won't say he deserved the injury but I'm certainly not going to feel much sympathy for someone who brings an injury on themselves in that manner. Make of that what you will but seriously, get the f*ck over it and stop whingeing.
I was there that night, sat right over the incident in question. The atmosphere was explosive, the stakes were high and it was as tense a game as I can remember. When Wigan made that break at the end not only did McGuire pull down Carmont illegally, Richards was tackled after he kicked on, also illegally. If Carmont had still been in support the result Richards could have passed inside for the match-winning try. Those events in that context - are you surprised some Wigan fans went a little mental?
As for McGuire in general, great player but he has a real grub side to his game that isn't often acknowledged but it showed on Friday. He's such a talented player he doesn't need it and it lets him down.

Illegal play goes on in every game - didn't see many Wigan fans complaining when the likes of Lima used the cannonball to deliberately injure fellow professionals - yet McGuire was seen as some villain - typical Wigan fans.
Didn't see you up in arms when you beat Leeds in CC final through two blatant reefing errors, but you complained plenty in the semi when the decisions went the other way!!

| Carmont wouldn't have scored. If Carmont hadn't been so slow then McGuire wouldn't have stood on his heel which led to his next step being the one that hyper extended his knee, and in turn caused him to fall bringing Carmont down......with 60m to go and McGuire's pace back then he easily would've kept up to him had his stride pattern not gotten interrupted......other defenders would've gotten to him too.
The slow motion reply is quite clear, the only problem is people only watched McGuire's hands and not his feet.
It probably wasn't even as bad as Carmont's tackle on the tryline to stop Burrow in last years playoffs.....but given the timing on the clock and that the offending team won it had people making it out to be worst than it was.

Wigan of course, commited no fouls and gave away no penalties in that match.
It would be funny if it wasn’t such a sick concept. Considering Wigans history with Mike Gregory as well, how anyone could look at what our games players do for our entertainment and be anything other than thankful to them I don’t know. As I say, it just seems a very sick concept.

| I still find it precious, the way Wigan fans jump to the defence of former club legend Phil Clarke to defend his comments.
If Clarke hadn't written those comments on his Sky Sports website, after having ample time pre-game to sit down and think about what he really wanted to say before doing so, then he wouldn't have got the vitriolic response he did.
What he said was clear, classless and completely lacking in irony given the circumstances in which his own playing career ended. He's an educated man, who did something in the heat of the moment which was out of character in order to generate some controversy for his employers.
See what I did there, Cronus?

| And there it is, point entirely proven, the desperate scramble to occupy the high moral ground and defend their grubby little cherub.
Trolling or not, you lack class. Maybe it’s a small town thing.

If by 'class', you mean calling out McGuire as a dirty cheating little grub, you're correct. It speaks volumes that you lot can never acknowledge the fact he cheated while spitting vitriol at anyone who dares speak against him in terms of that incident, whilst hiding behind Phil Clarke's comments. Or can you be the better man and admit it? I dare you.
Small town? Far from it.

I don’t think anyone has ever argued that Mcguire didnt pull Carmont back. Most people who aren’t infantile, quite quickly got that offence into perspective. Others failed. You being one of them.
If not small town, certainly small time.

Is that a distant bugle I hear as Smokey raises the white flag?
