| I'd say this Wigan side is way better than Barcelona. They're more like a fantasy side that's never existed consisting of the all time greats of Argentina, Brazil and Italy combined into one unbelievably awesome side....that beat a s**te Leeds side with a bad coach.
Oh and Tomkins is lightweight, can't catch a bomb and lacks discipline. Not fit to lace Slater's boots.

| Really what I should have said was that Wigan 2012 remind me of Barcelona in 2008-2011 in terms of wanting to watch them at every oppotunity because its witnessing something special.
Warrington were unlucky last season in the fact that they were the first team to finish top and not get a 2nd chance in a semi final. Think Leeds in 2004 when they where embarking on thier first title for generations. They got a 2nd chance when they lost their semi final and made up for it by winning the comp. Wire never got that. Another example of the why the top 8 system gives less advantage to the top team.

| Quote: Dougy "Not just winning but doing it with a style that I've never seen before. They manage to keep the intensity the entire game. You just want to watch them play again soon as the game is finished. When Sam Tomkins picks up the ball its like he's 14 and the rest of the pitch are 10 year olds. Fantastic
Well done Wigan

| They look decent, but no more than Wire did at this stage last year. Wane seems good tho, nice to see a seemingly genuinely good British coach in SL. He's also pretty entertaining. Tomkins is massively overrated.

The games intensity was higher between 2002 to 2008, its the last 4 years the intensity has dropped off, Wigan and Warrington are the teams that have perhaps returned to something like the past standard.'"
I know opinions are personal, but I would like to know your justification for thinking the was more intense during a specific 7 season period?

Not by the majority of posters on here he isn't.

Haha my thoughts exactly! There is a myth, exagerrated by people that don't watch any NRL, that every player in Aus is automatically better than anything we have.

Much better quality players during that period who had better skills in running plays creating intensive games.
Todays game is based on stopping momentum (intensity) by slowing down the play the balls by wrestling, lying on, interference etc. most teams rely on a couple of drives and a speculative kick.
Referee standards are now much lower with confusing stoppages and longer video decisions.
Take 5 of the best from each Bradford, Saints and Leeds during that period against 5 of the best during this latter period there would be a very large disparity in intensity what these teams could provide.

I love Sam Tomkins, his a superstar and one of the top #5 players in the world. I dont think there is any doubt Slater is the best full back in the game. Not to mention Australia have other world class full backs such as Greg inglis, ben barba and and jarryd Hayne.
If Sam said he wanted to go to Australia he would have many clubs trying to sign him!! I think his probably the only current British back who NRL clubs would want. Ryan Hall as well actually.

Rubbish
There are plenty fairly average backs in the NRL.
