Quote: j_hunter_hkr "
A coach can be fined for voicing his opinion about a referee, regardless of whether it's true or not. '"
Not true. As I’d think everyone knows, it wasn’t the [ifact[/i of making criticisms, it was the [ipersonal abuse[/i and [ivitriol[/i. If you really can’t see the difference, there’s something wrong with you. It is a simple and plainly obvious distinction.
Quote: j_hunter_hkr "They need to be "brought down" to a level where than can be criticised openly for poor performances. '"
Rubbish., because
“Punished”? FFS. Whose call was it? His? Linesman? Both? A judgment call was made and maybe it was wrong. This is no big deal. It happens. Of course it may have been an important call but it is no worse to miss a forward pass in the last seconds for a try, than in the first minute on the 4th tackle. It was not Smith’s fault that the game was so close, and he didn't deliberately miss it.
In any case, where we fundamentally disagree is you seem to think because a ref may fail to call a forward pass, this should lead to “
punishment”. To me, this is just
barking. If you don’t understand why, there’s no point in telling you.
Quote: j_hunter_hkr "At times, their performances are 'p*ss poor' '"
No, they're not. How many decisions does a ref make in 80 minutes? many thousands. How many mistakes constitute having a 'p*ss poor' game? if you think about it, the refs' error count is invariably much, much lower than the players.
Quote: j_hunter_hkr ". the 'refereeing standard has dropped' I said "If anything...". You can hardly say it's got better since going full time. They aren't good enough '"
Yes I can. I repeat that in my opinion, the refereeing so far this season is much better than this time last year, and watching all the games I do on Sky I reckon overall the refs are performing very well.
Quote: j_hunter_hkr " they should be publicly slagged off, to jolly well teach 'em'"
Quote: j_hunter_hkr ". Now you're just making things up
'"
I am? So when You said – you actually meant you do NOT want them to have some sort of public disciplinary for poor performances and shocking decisions.
Then when you said
Quote: j_hunter_hkr ". The point is, everyone you mentioned above is publicly accountable for their mistakes [iexcept[/i referees.'"
…
- you meant you are [ihappy[/i that referees are not (in your view) publicly accountable.
OK. And when you said
Quote: j_hunter_hkr ". referees need to be brought down from their pedestals and made accountable for their p*ss poor performances publicly!'"
… you didn’t at all mean that they should be publicly slagged off and publicly knocked down from their pedestals. You actual meant that NOTHING SHOULD BE SAID and they should REMAIN ON THEIR (alleged) PEDESTALS unmolested.
I see. You say the
exact opposite of what you mean. A strange carry on, but at least now we know
