"Whataboutism" isn't really the point here. And "naming and shaming" employers is very rarely HMRC's first resort.

| well this country is now reaping what it sowed,
when you could turn to a friend a UNION that looked after you and had your interests at heart we now have a country that's back to the early 1900s when employers can hold you to ransom.
I fair bet there will be loads that will say unions only brought about disruptive service but one day it will effect you and you have no one to turn to.
rip off Britain is just getting greedier and while you have few pounds in your bank balance and it doesn't effect you, you will only turn a blind eye to the situation that's out there and still use all the companies that have been mentioned unless you have a conscious

said a pensioner socialist, UNIONS do NOTHING other than collect a fee and stand in the way of progress. Ask yourself, why is UNISON based in BRAND NEW offices near Euston, for the "good of the workers", why did Scargill kill the mining industry, Bob Crow ruined the Railways... the list is endless (comrade)

Sad, but true Snowie. Thatcher’s legacy is a nation of people who no longer care about anyone else but themselves.

I was a shop steward for 25 years and if it was not for unions all workers would still be going to work with a flat cap and string tied round their coats no holidays and no pay rises and working 60 hrs a week

| I'd be wary of reading much into this without the detail. It's highly unlikely these clubs will have been paying below minimum wage in terms of the hourly pay. Most companies are on top of that.
It's more likely to do with rounding clocking in/out times and the joke of a change in interpretation of what constitutes a uniform (so what they said was ok last year, this year isn't but they never advised anyone of the change).
The minimum wage is probably too low in my view but the way HMRC have policed it this last 12 months has the clear hallmark of a money making exercise.

I can’t see how what I said was whataboutism. I wasn’t making excuses just saying I doubt they are alone. Sadly.

| When Celtic were name and shamed few years ago, the Celtic fans protested against the club and demanded change.

I worked 35 years in engineering, no union to represent us. However, every pay rise, change in working conditions etc. came about only after the unions negotiated the deal for it's own members elsewhere. We did become unionized eventually and things improved even more. The point is non-unionized places benefited from the unions too but this may seem to some, that we didn't need unions, but the working man / woman certainly did no matter where they worked.
