| Its not what you know its who you know. You only have to look at the schools sports editors, newspaper owners and and general media have gone to see that RL wouldn't have featured on their curriculum. Having the sport buried on Pay TV and geographically confined (at least at the top level) also adds to the feeling of its minority appeal. Finally England still has a very strong, but shallowly buried, class system in play. The Northern oiks are never going to get as much space as the Southern based sports like Union. When you look at viewing figures and attendances SL's are more than comparable to Unions top league but the game gets far less coverage. Hasnt changed in 100 years and I dont expect it will anytime soon.

Sorry JB but as a League supporter for more than four decades I find nothing that Steve Mascord has to say worth reading.
He tries too hard to be controversial to get attention.
The paper he writes for would lean a lot more to Union than League, for most of its life it was a broadsheet paper until it realised nobody was buying it anymore.
Steve comes across as a reporter looking for personal attention to me.
Just my opinion, he is probably a great bloke. Just not my cup of tea.

| Out of all the Aussie Journos I find him one of the few that is actually positive about the game and generally is well researched. the rest are just opinion mouth pieces with no substance and clear agendas by and large. I think he was on the eggnog for this one though lol.

Maybe its a follow on from his "Rock & Roll Rugby" theme

Also the most respected outside Australia I'd suggest. Almost all the others I've read from the so-called Buzz down are complete insular dicks with no idea where their sport came from or the damage the NRL's insularity is doing.

Peter Sterling and Joey Johns are well balanced in their views.
The fact that Mr Mascord has contract with an English media outlet that may influence some of his views may make you appreciate some of his opinions.
If the game in England could sell itself better in the Worlds biggest market you may find there would be plenty of Australian media commentators that you would like.

Although we may be accused of having a chip on our shoulders, League is definitely the poor relation in terms of media coverage.
Whether this is down to having fewer people on the "inside" or, the people we have, just not having sufficient influence, I don't know but,
certainly, the national press are firmly in the Union camp, with the broad sheets happy to give Union the same number of column inches as
football and League gets roughly the same as Darts or American Football.'"

Wrencat didn't say it was a conspiracy. He was actually just stating a fact in a fairly reasonable manner.
You really are a t055er!

He didn't say its a conspiracy. Do you seriously think UK newspapers aren't biased in their reporting?

Do you seriously believe that a sport that is played professionally along 1 stretch of motorway has any right to be called "national"?
Quins get 82k because they create the event then market it......it then gets reported because its a big event. The Aviva gets a bigger average attendance than sl and us propped up bu the juggernaut that is the international game.......their London double header is well attended and sarries are back at Wembley soon.......all this builds a hype and the media cover it. The idea that the media refuse to cover a sport to deliver some agenda is insane. Supply and demand dictate what the press print.........if there was a demand for league it would be met. There isn't!
The chip on the shoulder of many so called rl fans is what more often than not is the reason the game is held back where it is.

You see, once again, you've gone off on one of your flights of fancy with a load of irrelevant guff.
Try responding to what you were actually asked for a change. Which was:

We all know what you think. What es us off is your willingness to push it down everyone's throat even when it's not remotely linked with anything else that's been said. You've made your point: give us all a rest please.

Nope.
The broadsheet or ex broadsheets write what their demographic audience want to read........this is not bias, but a decision made by the management and editorial staff. The red tops report tits and soccer and the pretentious middle class tabloids aspire to have less red top readers and more broadsheets.
My guff as you refer to it is relevant by the way......you not liking it doesn't make it any less relevant

Newspapers and the media in general, can create hype for any event which can stir the public imagination.
Whether this is RU, Paralympics, Jordan getting married etc, etc.
There is an element of printing what the readers want, The Daily Mail being the best example of a newspaper finding stories to suit it's own agenda but, there is no doubt whatsoever that the media and especially newspaper's have a major influence on the public perception of all aspects of life, including sporting events.
To say that there is not bias is quite ridiculous.
