| Quote: Donnyman "Good point and a name that gets the TV dishes sold and viewers tuning into their games against such as Leeds and Saints (remember the Chris Joynt last seconds try against the Bulls) . Can't say it enough that the future is about keeping SKY happy with the content, not so called "expansion"........'"
And that is exactly how it will be decided.

| Widnes CEO on the radio tonight to discuss our position with regards to SL application
As far as I was concerned there wouldn’t be a bid, and from a financial stand point it makes sense. But there could be finances there to make a late bid. Who knows ?

| Quote: Donnyman "Tuff on whoever wants to moan about it whether they are so called "expansion" fans or fans of small English clubs who believe that the first consideration in any decision of this type is "Fairness". They have no vote.
The first consideration as we try to get SKY to sign us up again has to be deliver what they want. That's not anything other than the biggest 12 names in English Rugby league to attract maximum subs/dishes for our broadcast partners without whom we are dead. As for the second consideration there isn't one anymore........'"
Dearie me.No person at Sky has ever stated what you have written.
Also,on the BBC podcast,Elstone is discussing with more than just Sky.
Is it only the followers of clubs in Super League who purchase Sky?

He can tout it all he wants, he can discuss it with Fox Sports if he wants, he will get nowhere. I noted on here early last year about how Lenegan had said the next SKY deal may be lowered to £150M with the Championship getting nothing. You were one of those who wouldn't believe it for the sake of disagreeing, but you now know it was true. That was when Lenegan also talked about an all English Superleague 2022. You wouldn't believe that either,
TWP gone, Ottawa gone, New York never got going, Toulouse no chance.........So what about Catalans? here's Gausch the other day....
"[iEven the close-season would be a major financial challenge according to the Dragons’ owner, who told local media at the weekendWe are hoping for a lot from this meeting because, frankly, I don’t know how we will wrap up the next four months without state aid].[/i”
That's all I have to say to you on the matter, thanks for the post.

The site is well populated in it's "expansion" threads by people who appear to ape the Editors (and the rival RL paper's Editor's) view that North America is/was something of a "no brainer". Both papers carried the opposite view to be fair, but never answered it and that was that Expansion by Perez's own definition was the expansion of the pro-RL player pool and the expansion of the TV deals. through Canadian players and Canadian TV deals.
On that formal and agreed definition of expansion then "Expansion" never took place.
In the final weeks of the Charade the Editor left standing was trying to argue that the 10,000 crowds proved some element of success. This view suitably ignored...
1. Whether the 10,000 figure was genuine
2. How many of them didn't pay
3. How many were principally there for the beer festival.
4. How many may visit here and spend their money
But the bottom line was not just the nonsense of shipping across 24 man squads from here and calling that "expansion", it was that real clubs here had to be dismantled as Superleague clubs to provide places for these phoney outfits. That effectively meant "contraction" of the game here as the quid pro quo.
The way in which posters were attacked if they dared to disagree with the american dream often went unpunished. As time went on more and more so-called "expansionists" appeared on the site to rubbish English clubs with histories of up to 170 years standing, in favour of clubs that didn't even exist.

| Quote: Ste100Centurions "The normally hateful Matthew Shaw actually says it how it is in this column. The only bit he missed *in the design of getting Bradford back in Super League* is the criteria of having a minimum ground capacity of 5,000, while Dewsbury's Tetley's Stadium has a capacity of 5,100.
In almost any place you look, the criteria is designed to score Bradford the most points.
Remember how much per year the RFL are losing on an empty bomb crater called Odsal !!!
Just read this on the BB forum. The RFL, are helping to facilitate the stock car thing happening, and why not if he RFL, own the large hole, but is just another box ticketing exercise?
Update as promised regarding stock cars.
It is almost 12 months since we commenced again our aspiration to return Stock Cars to Odsal, the fourth attempt since 2001, having come very, very close in 2013 only to fail when OK Bulls went into administration.
Therefore this has been a lot of hard work, and for a few months in my own mind may have been again, speculative. However, we have continually negotiated with integrity from RFL COO Mr Tony Sutton who we cannot thank enough for his investment and interest and, yesterday, we have concluded a secure long term arrangement commercially that could see the sport secure at Odsal for 12 years. The agreement reached will require ratification by the RFL board early next month of which we are very positive. We held further discussions yesterday 'pm' with the new Bulls shareholders who, currently have a huge workload commitment in bidding for the Bulls to return in the Super League. From the beginning of this journey, we sought a commitment that both us and the Bulls approached Odsal 'jointly'and together and what came across very clearly from the Bulls stakeholders [ again to whom we thank them for heir time ] is a shared vision to 'save' Odsal' and see it return to it's former glory. That really is positive fundamentally to us as it is about the commitment of our sports to regenerate Odsal for the city of Bradford.
Our next stage will be opening discussions with Bradford Council who are aware of the plans, to secure the necessary permissions we require and clarification of what was established in 2013 in terms of planning consent etc. We plan to move things along rapidly and are working to be able to offer more clarity on Sunday 6th December as, if we manage to tick all the boxes, it is our ambition to open the doors on Saturday 3rd April 2021. We are 'almost' there! Whilst discussion has been detailed and taken some 12 months, reality is dawning that this has been the 'easy bit!'
The dedication and work required to re-open it, refurbishment is massive and planning for that is 'underway' however 'just' to open the doors for sport will require joint investment of at least £500,000. When we get to this stage, hopefully early next month, we will be asking the whole sport to play it's part - in a similar way to the outpouring of support offered to help restore Coventry and will be seeking volunteers to help with the project from tradespeople and the community to assist with this huge task with work anticipated to commence late January 21. Hopefully on 6th we will be able to complete the vision and make Odsal a reality after 23 years.

| And the added benefit of this would be that you would all get to enjoy the bloody stupid corners at Odsal again as they'd need to be ripped up and relaid to facilitate the cars. What a farce.

Does the "joint venture", in any way, make a return to SL more or less likely.
Is having stock car racing at your ground at the top of the checklist for those clubs wanting to be considered for next season's "free ticket" ?
Just getting back to how "we" are going about "inviting" a 12th club into SL.
As things stand, there are 8 clubs (7 if we exclude Widnes on the grounds of their recent financial failings), who have thrown their cap into the ring, which is going to leave 7 unsuccessful applicants, along with 1000's of fans, many of whom will feel that their club has been "wronged" and there will be some that walk away from the game as a result - just as they did when franchising came in last time around.
Much as they may be unfashionable, why on earth didn't "we" just revert to asking Fev to join SL.
They were beaten in the GF by Toronto and as such are the next best club on the field of play.
Although there would undoubtedly have been grumbles and their proximity to Wakefield and Cas is always going to be a problem long tern.
However, their inclusion as "No 1 contender" would have been a damn sight fairer than the convoluted "points system" that will decide the 12th club.
Also by giving them the green light early on, they would have had the best chance of assembling something like a competitive squad.
Our sport, as things stand, upset 7 clubs and their fans, in order to pick a club, possibly for 1 season only as it could be all change when the new TV comes in.
Lash up and brewery spring to mind.
