Ok then if it wasn't directed at me, then I apologise. I don't really know the reason why the racism word was banded about, because there hasn't been any in this thread and it seemed to be used as a defence tool to support an argument (not by you btw).

I explained my reasons why I was against it - he can't apply for a passport yet, so how can qualify under residency rules (this seems to be an only RL belief, because he couldn't play Union or Cricket (for example) for England under this ruling), the way he said he wanted to play for NZ just a couple of months ago and now he's changed his tune; he's a mercenary same as Heighington, and that the RFL tell our clubs to bring through young players to help the England team, yet they're happy to pick Aussies and Kiwis in the same team.

As for Peacock, he's only played half the SL games this season, so he wouldn't really be my starting pick. He'd be in the squad and on the bench v the Aussies, as he's always wants to smash them, same with Morley really. In the squad and bench v Aussies/Kiwis, but I really think it should be their final tournament and it's time to bring some new faces in and I believe now is the best time to do it, otherwise they simply won't be ready (I disagree that the Knights program brings preparation for the more inexperienced, because playing Scotland in front of say 1,000 just isn't the same scenario). Peacock and Morley should be on the sidelines and coaching team during the WC to help guide the players (like Wiki does for NZ), I think that's an important weapon. Maybe we could use Sculthorpe or someone similar during the Four Nations in this position too.

You're wrong.

Let's have a look at eligibility criteria in the sports you mention he has completed thirty six consecutive months of Residence
immediately preceding the time of playing.'"

So – rugby union

Cricket - minimum requirement- spent half a year for each of four years in the country you want to play for (don't have to be a citizen or hold a passport)

Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect. - Graham Lowe:26316.jpg

For those who've used the argument "this is just the way international sport is these days" - and "cricket and union do it" - ask yourself, where are those sports in terms of developing their own homegrown talent?

This isn't about Rangi Chase, it's about the way the England management are trawling the NRL, all in the pursuit of "competion for places" - not seeing that the trade off is you screw yourselves long term. I hope England win the 4 Nations and Rangi scores a bag full of tries, but deep down, I want to see that chance go to a kid we've developed, not somebody who "qualifies" - which, let's face it, could be half the NRL. This opinion is deemed to be narrow minded but what's more narrow minded, and short-sighted than prizing a win in the 4 Nations this year over everything else?!

What's to stop the secret subsidy of Oz/Kiwi players on the edges of National/SOO rep to get them in the country on a 3 year contract and have them playing for England in 2014?

How is picking Chase damaging in the long-term? If a better, true-blue English lad comes through, he'll get picked ahead of him. Same goes for Widdopp or anyone else. Far more damaging to the development of youngsters is the massive array of untalented Aussies/Kiwis in SL who stop kids even getting a game at club level. That has already caused long-term damage IMO.

McNamara has the task of making England competitive. He's had a look at what's available and decided that short-term he simply doesn't have the players available to him (Exiles game anyone?). So he's looking to increase the squad of quality players. He will also have had the complete backing of the RFL before going down this route - having a go at him individually for it is just silly.

The good news is that we seem to at last to be producing some promising backs. Add them to what we currently have, and our NRL exports (Ellis, Burgess, Graham etc) and we should be in a much better position than we have been in the very recent past. I don't think we'll beat Aus/NZ this year, but hopefully we can get a genuinely competitive team out at the World Cup.

The problem is not the rules, but the amount of crap quota players and those on European passports filling up Super League squads, and in the Championship too. That stunts progression, not Rangi Chase getting a call up.

My problem isn't with qualifying for a country, I hate it when players change from one to another.

What's pleasantly surprising to me is that apart from a few vocal opposers, which are fair enough (and I don't consider them "racist" because that's absurd logic when we're dealing with national teams, the whole concept is "racist" if you are prepared to use that faulty logic) the majority of the game from what I can tell are supportive of Rangi.

If this was an unprecedented move and we were the only England team doing this there may be question marks but we're not. If the rules were harsh enough to only consider country of birth without exception this would not be an issue but that would be a very unfair way of working things. As it stands we've got a guy who wants to represent for us and it's within the rules so why not? He's clearly good enough and if it's okay for the aussies and the kiwis to field islanders then it's okay for us to field Rangi Chase. It just shows that castleford have done a terrific job in making him feel at home which is one of the reasons he's just signed a new contract for them.

Exactly. People should look on the Casforum (Man of steel announcement) about his upbringing...its a very humbling read.

He feels at peace here now.

Rangi the renegade cuts to the chase

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rangi Chase has had tougher battles than facing Darren Lockyer on his run-on debut.

Rangi Chase was a teenage thug

You can see why he said he wants to stay in England and doesn't want to go back to NZ.
