| True. But I think it's worth giving it a go. And giving it a go means having a marketing office who have half a clue. I'm not sure the London club have ever had that. But they could, and the RFL have it in their interest to make sure they do.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

Quite correct , for the ' Good of the game ' we Need a self sustaining London club , even if that means the RFL/SKY paying for it , as long as it's all out in the open

PHIPPS....you're a co(k.....Quins RL may lack fans and the intelligence to market themselves, but they still put on the best (or close to it) after party in Superleague.

I agree with you about the after match party top class, me and the mrs always go in the bar after the game until chucking out time it really does add to the whole weekend away.
I haven't read through all 25 pages of the thread so maybe repeating someone elses post but going to our game every year down there we always look forward to the full weekend etc., but we always come away saying the same, its a great ground for rugby league but just too far out on a limb to attract casual supporters. If the ground was in central London on a tube line it would be far easier to pull in more people. Unfortunately there aren't many suitable locations that would be affordable for this purpose I reckon.

The only grounds that are easy to get to are well out of the price bracket........and the wendyballers moan about the state of the pitch after all our rolling mauls, contested scrums and 12 player rucks......
.......Put simply, the current ground is fine.....it's the marketing that's at fault.
Glad you like the afterparty sandy.......shame that not enough people get the chance to experience it.

Shouldn't that read the 'smallest' after party in Superleague?
With the amount of supporters that turn up the catering bill must come in at well under £5
So if the Harlequins after match party is so good why does hardly anyone go along?

you really are a bell. you contribute nothing to the forum and you have absolutely no clue about rugby league in the south, and for that matter, in the north. crowds in london are bad. its fact. not every side can have 15k at every game, but to constantly harp on about it without any clue about the more subtle reasons of why this happens is parochial at best. as much as gf has moaned about marketing (i agree with what he says 100% btw) it is a fundamental problem. the ground is superb. the people who go down to quins on a match day are knowledgeable and passionate about their team and the sport. the hospitality after the game is as good as i've known at any super league ground, probably any sporting ground. the numbers playing the game are increasing. the recognition of rugby league is slowly coming. the amateur and student games are thriving. even skolars are improving. just because it doesn't happen over night, doesn't mean it won't. the attendance wasn't good, no. the game itself was. everything other than the crowd was, bar the press coverage of it down here. it needs to be addressed, no doubt but to say that rugby league in london is a failure is very, very wide of the mark

Doesn't your sig mean you agree at least 1/3 with Mclennan?
Monie was a big money flop for 2/3rds of a season.
TR was ok in parts and certainly got players up for games we should have lost, but also had the reverse applied and probably went a season to long.
Dan Staines.........hmm CC final aside not a lot to shout about, again for 2/3rds of a season.
Les Kiss, would have liked to have had Les for longer and see how he developed.
Don't get me started on bacon double cheese

100% record, top of the league. Good job they're scraping along on sub-2000 crowds and don't have the cash to get a decent coach or players...

| Where is the bell st pete tonight .... is he hiding under one of the many empty seats ? Could he not be bothered travelling the short distance to Widnes, a shorter journey to home games than most Quins fans make every other week and have done for years - not many of us but loyal to the last ......... and top of the league
