The reason this is a big story is the Dr said he was going to cheat the cap just like others do. He has obviously gone away and found out how this is done. That would indicate that this is common practise and it suits the player getting better wages so nothing is said. However if you operate this system and you terminate their contract you must pay off both element to avoid them "Telling tales". The players in some ways have the club by the balls.

The reason this is a big story is it has clear that there have been an attempt to disguise player payments to remain under the cap. The chances are this wasn't a newly created scam but one that is used in other clubs with money so could create waves for other clubs too.

I would guess if any sanctions are taken on Salford he will not hold back naming names and clubs. The cap is the cap though and if he has used a system to breach the rules he will be made an example of. Point deduction will not work as all he will do is make sure he has a very good squad for middle 8's. I don't think they will just remove the cap without punishment. It must be tough been a Salford fan.
