| Quote wrencat1873="wrencat1873"It could be a good night for RL as, Leeds will be right up there for team of the year and would have been nailed on winners if the GB"Team" hadn't won the Davies Cup.
Sadly, Sinfield wont win the main prize as there are too many higher profile "stars" in front of him but, excellent recognition for him and the sport.'"
Re team of the year, quite a fuss was being made of the England women's football team earlier this year. Even if Murray hadn't won the other day I think we'd have seen the women win the award.

Looking at the early betting odds on a few sites last night and they had Leeds 2nd favourite for the team award behind Team Andy and in some cases the women well behind Leeds. Everyone had Sinfield as 5th favourite with Murray and Ennis Hill favourites and Fury and Hamilton behind.

| The BBC have had a real push on women's sport, and more specifically the women's football team this year. After the embarrassment of leaving the team award to the public vote in 2006 (the last time the RL community rallied round and got St Helens recognised) its now picked by panel. Their agenda will be continued by the award going to the English lasses. I've nowt against them or women's sport in general, but the amount of coverage devoted by the BBC needs to be reviewed in line with other minority sports.

| Its nice that an RL player has been recognized but imo Leeds played their best rugby when Sinfield wasn't playing.

Yes, he only finished as No 2 in the world - poor show!

| Quote Perry="Perry"I'll be voting for Kev Sinfield.
Wouldn't mind if Mo Farah won, but what's the betting the home counties vote for Andy Murray, a man with zero personality.'"
I,m sure thats changed a bit, when he came into the Olympic team and the current Davis Cup team he seems to have a different persona and shows more emotion when competing for Great Britain. Leeds probably are well up there for the team award more than the individual award.
Would like the winner to be from a "community sport" from athletics, rugby, football, tennis etc not like a limited engagement sport like formula 1, so I wouldn't want Hamilton again. So I,m still sticking for Mo or Murray.

Don't agree with that. To start with there haven't been many times that Sinfield's not played and certainly not many big games.
In my opinion we've played our best rugby in some of the playoffs and grand finals and he's been a major part of those performances. I think you see Sinfield's influence more when it's a close game. The 2004, 2008, 2009, 2012 & 2015 Grand Finals I think he was a major reason why Leeds won those games.

I was thinking more last season when the young number 6 (Sutcliffe I think) was playing when Sinfield was dropped.

| It's great for the sport that Sinfield is nominated, but unless there's an uncharacteristic show of non-partisan voting from the RL community, I can't see him winning; we're far too tribal for that.

This ^
And you can bet that any narrative would reference "Kevin Sinfield, the Headingly Carnegie RU player"
