An individual with a Castleford connection saw this at the time and he mentioned it to me immediately after the game.
The fact that it wasn't mentioned by anyone else,in particular Danny Orr,after the game on the Saturday evening does seem to suggest that not only the match officials were oblivious to what had occurred.
It is also the case that the Castleford directors were directly behind the individual who saw what had occurred.
I suspect your club received the information from the media.

Salford played 35 seconds ( 3 sets ) with a player who shouldn't have been on the field .( between 76.33- 77.08)

Castleford Played 19 minutes with a player who shouldn't have been on the field, who was guilty of denying Salford a try with an dangerous challenge and contributed to breaks that resulted in two further Castleford Tries afterwards. and Castleford have put in an official complaint ..


Tansey put in an early guilty plea for a 1 match ban .

As mentioned there's precident, Saints in 2006 were fined £100 for a similar incident , but I don't know at what stage of the game , or how close the result was.

Tricky one for the RFL. The precedents don't suggest much of a penalty, but looking at that photo, the extra man was being utilised in defence quite significantly at a crucial point in the game. Would Cas have found a gap in those 3 tackles if there had been just 13 on? Tricky.

FWIW, the club are the ones that may be in trouble, not the interchange official.

As a trainer, I have to let the IC official know we are going to make a change, the player is given a card by us with the number of his interchange. The player walks down the sideline with the IC official and when the player coming off is seen by the IC to be off the pitch he will take the card from the ongoing player and hold it up to the crowd.

I cannot understand how a player got on unless the club's sideline staff did not inform the IC official.


In the NRL, you can acutally be fined if you throw the card at the IC official and also, you MUST put it in their hand. I've seen players called back off the pitch to be told to picked up a dropped card and place it in their hand.
