So we're not allowed to celebrate coming in certain positions as its mediocrity. At what point is it not mediocrity?
It's an achievement to go up a league place or to retain a league place. The rest of it might be mediocrity, but so is scoring a try when you're losing by 60 points. Should they all just go home?

In our one season in Super League, singing "is this all you get at home?" to a packed South Stand at Headingley was a personal favourite.
Most unoriginal is virtually every club singing "you're just a small town in Wigan" to us. For some reason the Whitehaven fans got very upset when we responded with "you're just a bus stop in Scotland".

Would you chant 'We are second bottom', or 'We didn't come last'? Or 'We are below average'? Or even 'We are 4th'? No. 'We are the champions' and 'We are top of the league' make sense, if an unfancied team overachieved for example by making the play-offs then a chant relating to that would make sense, but celebrating not being the absolute worst is totally backwards. What's even more worrying is that some people seem to be too stupid to comprehend that celebrating individual victories and successes is different to celebrating a mediocre league finish. |
