So Newmarket is a totally private venture ?

Grants are from Sport England I believe, WMDC has nothing to do with either stadium development.
The closest they have come to offering financial help is letting the clubs LOAN up to £2m from a bank with the money secured against council owned land.

It will only be the Wakefield community stadium because it has community facilities and is (just) in Wakefield.
The council chose not to fund either project as it didn't want to get involved in paying for stadia which will be used by private companies.
In fact, when they offered a feasibility study for both sites for which one they would back (which Wakefield refused to take part in) all they were going to do IIRC was shift the other teams £2m land loan into the other project.
Glasshoughton is/was going to be a community stadium too because the club offered to put in facilities the council could use and take the profit from whilst being run by the club (like moving the swimming baths to the stadium site for example)...the council NEVER replied to the club.

We refused the feasibility study and we are the bad guys, its true because its been well documented on here and in the press.
Little details like this are just going against the flow and should be ignored.

IA would be able to give you chapter and verse as he has done a lot of work on the project, but I believe it is the developers Yorcourt and their backers who have underwritten it.
Obviously, if you want to concrete over a large part of the County, then it makes sense to offer the council/locals something in return.....hence a new Community stadium! Could just as easily been a swimming pool, but given Wakey folks traditional views that water is the tool of the Devil, that would seem a bit of a none starter.Whether Wakey Council take on resposibility if/when it gets built I'm not sure. Wildcats, or AN Other would probably be the anchor tennants, and simply pay rent to the council, in much the same manner as the majority of their supporters.

| Yes, I cannot honestly see the developers wanting the hassle of running the place once they have finished putting up all the warehousing, so I would expect the council simply to say, Thank you very much, and pats on the back all round.

its not going to be built or run by the council. it will be run and operated by the community trust.
