How much do you think a TV channel would be willing to pay for the rights to Wakefield's home games for example, given that the overwhelming majority of people with any interest in the club are probably already at the game anyway?

Collective bargaining IMO enables the clubs to command a much higher price than they would get individually.

With more and more games being played on Friday nights the feed back from RL fans is I know Sky are looking at some changes to improve things. Perhaps a switch to Sundays evenings or even Thursdays to ensure that the Sky game has little or no competition from a live game.

I have a close friend who workls for Telegenic who clover the games for Sky and he has told me that they are [iexpecting[/i to continue to cover games beyond this season and the company are investing heavily in new technology including lots of 3D gear.

A new deal with Sky is on the cards, but how long will it be before the pressure of too many clubs in the SL becomes a problem again. Trouble is an old one too many clubs and not enough money top support them all, clearly some clubs are struggling perhaps as many as four dangerously overstretched. A result of the new deal could well be a smaller SL and longer franchises becoming the norm for stability. The economic downturn of this country has yet to fully hit home yet and in the next few months will be critical to the long term future of not only this country , but the game as a whole.

we need some competition. IMO Sky are paying unders for exclusive SL coverage. If just one other station started sniffing they would have to increase, its a major viewing sport for them and contributes to their subscription listing quite well i suspect.

for the last f*(king time...it has SFA to do with dishes and everything to do with advertisers, market share of advertising budget and the future of TV in the UK once the BBC lose the licence money




FFS.......dishes and subs don't cover the cost projections that BskyB had....but ad revenue is doing well.

Really? 100k Rl fans subscribing to Sky = $50million quid a year. They pay out 10million quid a year currently for SL. Then add income from advertising during SL games and RL shows and Sky is doing very nicely thank you out of RL.
