Why cant Australia decide the rules of its own competition? Just like many other sports.

If Kiwis or other nations want to play in a series like "Australia's" state of origin go and start their own.

And it hampers the development of the international game. Offering a few past it cast offs does not make up for the loss of players like McManus and Hunt.

Although I'm sure Mcmanus could have just done a Jarryd Hayne and converted back to being an Aussie after the World Cup.

They have rules that they set.

Australia provided a couple of dozen players to foreign teams in the World Cup, they brought the Warriors into the NRL rather than another Oz team they develop many young players of Samoan, Tongan and Kiwi heritage into first rate players that then go on and represent a country of their heritage that did not develop or nurture their talents.

Dam Aussies they do nothing to help other nations.
Luckily they do a lot more for Pacific Nations including the Kiwis than England does for France, Wales and Scotland it seems.

I think you'll find the SL are changing the quota precisely to avoid discriminating based on nationality. It would be a disgrace if the Leeds Rhinos only selected players elligible to play for England.

Don't get me wrong, the NRL has developed players for other nations, but Origin has also discouraged players from representing nations they feel they are from.

Ultimately, the idea of international sport is a competition of nationalities, not a competition based on where a player is developed.
