Quote: Leyther_Matt "I must admit that I'd be slightly leaning towards having the tours again instead of the Four Nations, if anything to add a little more credibility to the World Cup. If it's structured as the 'super group' again then it will just be a case of playing the Oz/NZ in the group stages, and then meet one or the other in the semi's and/or final. I know that is obviously a problem with the lack of strength in depth at international level, but I agree to an extent that it can become a little repetitive with playing both Oz/NZ every year in such tournaments.'"

What were the attendance figures like when we had the 'watered down' tours from 2001-2003 and in 2007 then please?'"
Ah so still no apology?
International RL had been downgraded and moved to small stadiums, this is what my point has been all along!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! During the period you mention, International RL also had no calendar and it was all very much "oh lets organise some test matches".
They had a great product the ashes tours, this along with Kiwi's touring and tests against the french, it was a well structured and well supported product (the ashes i am talking about).
They then choose to do away with the ashes and i am saying bring them back every 2 years but for just as long as the teams tour for the 4 nations and they can also play the top 2 or 3 teams in the respective countries.

| Quote: Chorlton RL "Seen as he won't look for the stats himself... There was an Ashes series in the 1986, which had the following attendances;
OT; 50,583
Elland Rd; 30,808
Wigan; 20,169
The best attended match on British soil in the whole of the 80's apart from those three was 26,771 in Hull and was the first Test of the Ashes.
For the 1990 Ashes series the same venues were used, but Wigan was replaced with Wembley and opened up a decade of Tests at Wembley. So, even though the transition from the 80's to the 90's mirrors what is happening now the RFL are wrong for doing it and reading facts about how they are doing this is boring and we shouldn't bother paying attention to it.
Our friend though seems to disagree with taking a match to Wembley this year.'"
Thanks for the stats, i dont know why you think i am ignoring 1986 but i was talking about games at Wembley (remember we play at Wembley this Sat), hence why i spoke of 1990 & 1994, also 1995 WC.

Started here after Him had a go at whinging fans
Quote: Neville Bartos "For the record i am going, i bought 6 tickets, and why can't i whinge, people on here talking like it is some achievement getting 40k in a 87k stadium and most of these tickets are freebies, heavily discounted. That is not a good thing in my book. RL shot itself in the foot many years ago axing the ashes tours, when i last went to watch RL at Wembley 1990 & 94, we got 57k and i would bet not many of them were freebies. The staging of games at small grounds has put a perception in peoples minds it's not much of an event any more. The RL should always have the games at big stadiums, this creates more of an "event" atmosphere ala Union. Look back in the 90's and we got impressive crowds at big stadia, all the "so called" expansion plans and letting the game die in the heartlands is the reason our game now struggles.
I would say, the RFL are doing a good job using groupon etc to push tickets and i think that is good work. But i have had Sky Sports on this morning for 2 hours while i work, not one mention of Eng V Aus and if you look at BBC website the RL section is not awash with stories about Saturday, there is one story about a new debutant for the kiwis. Why are they not pushing the media with information and stories?'"

| Quote: Craig_UK "Wow another idiot comes along.
Why are you cherry picking the best attendances over a 14 year period compared to 3 test matches played within a month in 1990????
Those attendances were for 3 games within 4 weeks of the same year, check out the attendances for 1994 as well very impressive.'"
And all right in the heart of the UK League season. Not up to two months after the season ended.
2004 - Eastlands 38,000, Hull 23,000, Wigan 25,000, Elland Road 39,000 - were all pretty impressive and within 3-4 weeks of each other HTH
If we get 45,000-50,000 (Wembley), 23,000 (Hull) and 35,000 Elland Road it will be a pretty good effort, all within 4 weeks, out of season and only 25,000 down on your flagship year of 1990. Oh and one of the games will be against the historically less popular Kiwis too.

So were you wrong?'"
You made the assumption they didnt get large crowds in the 80/90's and gave you some stats and you still doubted it.
So, tell me why arent those figures better than what we "achieve right now", what crowds are we achieving right now i assume you are talking about the one off event that hasnt even taken place yet?
I would say going off the past 10 years, we are achieving 20k, so again, i really think you need to buck your ideas up as you are going to make one hell of a rubbish journo.

As well as use stupid american slang cant you follow a thread?
I made a point that getting 40k in a 87k stadium with most of the tickets heavily discounted is not progress.
This then obviously got discussed and i compared it to when International RL was getting big crowds, so please follow you jack ass (like what i did there yes it does sound terrible an English person using silly american words)

I agree taking it to COMS stadium was a good move and it got a large crowd. Look at the stats for when they played at Reebok, Huddesfield stadium etc, doesnt look so good. If we stick to big stadiums then the crowds will come, but jumping from JJB to Wembley is a silly jump at the moment, should have gone for a 40k stadium and build from there, half empty Wembley wont look good.

No, I made the assumption that the crowds in the 80/90's are no different to what we achieve now. I have never once said we didnt get large crowds in the 80/90's.
Yes, I am talking about this coming weekend at Wembley, where we will see an attendance comparable to all the other Wembley attendances, bar the 95 WC Final, understandably.
We can also compare the attendances at Elland Road in the last 7 years, to the ones from the 80/90's.
We have also had countless attendances within the region of 20-25k in the last decade, JUST LIKE THE 80/90's!!!!!
I think I'll make an ok journo, but thanks for your concern.

Progress ... from what point to what point? What are you saying the progress should have been, which seemingly you think it is not? In short - WTF you on about?

So for the record, the attendances we are achieving at the moment, would you like to tell me what they are???? just a tip achieving does mean in the past you know not future.
So the 20-25k in the last decade, tell me, look at the 1990 & 1994 tours, like the ones i pointed out, where are the 20k-25k attendances?
