Iconic, but why a statue of a failure?

I think you maybe right when it comes to not picking a player who got in real deep with rugby union.
Clive Sullivan is a great shout!

Not failure, just a mark that we are all human, even very fine sportsmen. Or something.

We're talking RL at Wembley, not RL in general, and therefore it has to be a moment at Wembley, or a player synonymous with Wembley. As great as Mike Gregory and Clive Sullivan are, I don't associate them with Wembley.
Don Fox, Offiah, the '85 final, Van Vollenhoven, Jonathan Davies' try, Hanley for GB and Leeds, the great '90 and '94 tests - all the first things that spring to mind when RL and Wembley are mentioned in the same breath.

| If it's a Wigan player I will vandalise it. Sorry, but that is a fact. It'll be like toppling the statue of Saddam.

| Does it need to be a specific player though, or a player at all? I appreciate the splendour of the Bobby Moore statue but with a sport that is now so parochially club focussed rather than internationally so, you are going to find people disagreeing with the choice based on their club loyalties. Why not just make it an anonymous player or 'scene' and dedicate it to all of the players that have graced the Wembley turf for club or country?

| Clive Sullivan immediately springs to mind, he epitomises all that is good about RL, where ability is the ultimate arbiter, not class, colour, background or old school tie, not only that he was captain of his country when they won the world cup...there arent many that can claim that accolade in ANY sport.
Failing that, the real "Prince of Centres" Harold Wagstaff

1230.gif “You are playing a game of football this afternoon but more than that you are playing for England, and more even than that, you are playing for right versus wrong. You will win because you have to win. Don’t forget that message from home. England expects every one of you to do his duty.”:1230.gif |

| Don Fox is the iconic rugby league moment at Wembley, just as Bobby Moore lifting the cup is the iconic football moment
Honorable mentions to Offiah, and for me this one always springs to mind
