| Ban all stripping of the ball even one on one and the kick through that goes dead should be brought back to the place it was kicked only if you have kicked from your own half.

| When the ball is kicked downfield in general play, all players save the person playing the ball and the dummy half have to be behind the kicker, or they're offside and a penalty where the ball was kicked. Stops forwards heading off early so that the ball receiver can only get 10 metres, and means kickers will have to be much more focussed on aiming the ball, rather than just hoofing it as far as possible.

IIRC the NRL have introduced a modified version of the "downtown" rule whereby players can be in front of the kicker and can continue chasing downfield (whilst giving the receiver 10m) but are considered offside if are in front of where the play the ball was taken from when the ball is kicked. So it doesn't mean every forward has to get back behind the kicker but does limit how far downfield they can be at the kick.
I think the RFL should introduce this rule, since it's very frustrating watching Nick Fozzard set off running up field as soon as the PTB is taken and is half way down there by the time the ball is kicked nevermind caught!

| Quote BigRob="BigRob"How would it work? Team kicks out wide, winger catches it passes it inside to centre who scores. Would be worth less, as would the Thomas Bosc try where he chipped over twice, and the McGuire try v Catalan 2009 and the Wide to West. All of those are much more difficult and exciting tries than a prop barging over from 2 yards out.

good point
how about modifying the current rule where a kick which is caught on the full in the tryline is a 20 metre tap to any kick caught on the full from anwhere from the 20 m. line back results in a play the ball from where the ball was kicked
it would reduce the amount of kicking for the wingers on last tackle

Just wondering does the ERL use the 40/20 rule?'"
Yes mate,I have to say the 40/20 rule is probably the last decent one that RL has introduced.

| Allow all teams to pass the ball forward, not just Leeds and St Helens.

| Why only 1 rule change?
I would increase the players on the pitch to 15 a side
Reverse the numbers so the front row is 1,2 & 3...with the 2 new players at 6 & 7 .......all the way to 15 for the full back.
Remove the Play the Ball and instead have rucks and mauls.
Scrums would have to be contested with the ball being fed straight and the hooker actually "hooking" the ball.
Introduce Line-outs for when the ball is kicked into touch.
Charge 150 quid a ticket to internationals and play them at Twickenham.
....or better still....let Union continue to tinker with their rules and leave TGG alone.....it's fantastic as it is

| There are a couple of good ones in here... among the mainly over complicated unworkable ones!
I would take an RU rule and put it into RL. If a defending player recovers the ball from a kick by dropping to floor he HAS to regain his feet before he is allowed to be tackled. If you tackle a player while still on the floor (in recovering the ball from a kick) you give away a penalty. If the player dropping on the ball does not regain his feet quickly (given he can't be tackled on the floor now) then he is guilty of a voluntary tackle. This encourages well placed attacking kicks close to the touch lines and stop defending players just stopping on the floor when they are close to touch just to kill the ball. It is one of the rules in RU that works well for me.

Simpler than that; either introduce 30m taps or, any kick defused in the ingoal results in a 20m tap. It would bring the 'bomb' further into the field of play and therefore make it much less effective. You don't want massive overhauls, just minor tweaks which even up the balance a little. I think you'd see a return to pacemen on the outside instead of blokes like Matt King, who, with all due respect to the bloke, i'd leather in a 100m race.
