| seeing as no one plays series anymore winning just the once is all that matters...
why do you think loads of england players want the 'new' ashes fought for on a game by game basis??? cos they know they are more than capable of knocking over the aussies in 1 game at least..
just ask the kiwis, their record against australia is comparable with ours..it's just their wins over australia tend to come in finals

| im really looking forward to this years four nations, just to see how england respond after the farcial world cup display last year.
now there is talk about putting the ashes on the line for england v australia what more could we want by shoving one down the convicts throats and winning the ashes? there is alot riding on this four nations and i for one will certainly be interested in the outcome. i will be going to all englands games and even supporting england in wales.
this is the pinnicle of rugby league and how people can say they are not interested beggars belief.

Australia captain Darren Lockyer has expressed reservations about an English proposal to put rugby league's Ashes on the line in a one-off game next month.
Richard Lewis, executive chairman of the Rugby Football League, again urged the ARL to decide in favour of the trophy being put up for grabs at Wigan on October 31 during the Four Nations series .

| The 'Ashes' should probably be played for via a series.
This smacks of desperation by our pommie friends to finally win them!!
England /GB can sometimes beat Australia in a one off game here and there.
But as far as winning a whole series.....FORGET IT!!!

It wont be the same and its almost like desperation to win the Ashes as, like you said we know we can beat the Aussies in one game. You cant go from a 3 game series to a stand alone game and think it still has the same value.....
We dont deserve to win the Ashes until we can beat the Aussies over 3 games.

| ^Yep. It's actually sad and somewhat worrying that fans would have such apathy to the intnerational game. The few Poms in here aren't alone. Way too many so-called fans here are exactly the same, and we're the ones with the success. If I hadn't become so desensitised to such apathy, it would be infuriating.
