Ray french has been fantastic for rugby league i would rather listen the BBC comentry over Sky any day the BBC comentry are presented by people who know and understand RL unlike the sky presenters like cullen who talks a good game but was crap at playing.

Sorry, can't agree with this. French may know (or knew) the game but he struggles to get that over in his presentation and Davies was an immensely talented player but he is hardly a scholar of the game - I suspect he doesn't follow League bar his BBC duties.
I would suggest that a current professional League coach such as Cullen knows more about the modern game than these two... whether he can communicate this on TV is another matter |

Agreed - it was infuriating when they cut to a replay and by doing so missed the next play. Methinks perhaps RL is too fast a game for the Union loving Beeb to keep up with!! |

Really?
Apart from no advertising and a good pre-match host in Balding, I struggle to see what it offers.
At times I found myself wondering how poor it could get. Regular times sound was cut off, the pre-match entertainment drowned out the discussions and the commentary is worse. Every kick - according to French - was a "great kick."
Davies kept calling Phelps yesterday Cameron Phillips (or so it sounded) and then finally got it right five minutes later. |

| BBC RL is a right bug-bear of mine...
Don't like Claire Balding, didn't like Steve Ryder.. problem 1
Ray French is just a numpty and Jonathan Davies isnt right for the job either problem 2
Dave Woods is no better and has an annoying voice, although at least he can get the names right (however, im sure he said "here's gleeson" when Mathers had the ball??)
And why o why to the beeb insist on replays of feck all mid game and you end up missing the bloody live play..

About time. Lovely guy and all that but his commentating has been rubbish since before the professional era. Dave Woods is the best out there so I'm happy for him to get the job.

| BBC's coverage has been pathetic for years.
It is completely eclipsed by Sky. (Personally I like Eddie and Stevo too )
I think woods is a good commentator but lacks personality, the opposite of French.
I also get the impression Edwards watches about 5 games a season. Replace Edwards with Carney and French with McDermott and O'COnnor. |
