You are a journo, wow! Maybe a little studying of the history of RL would help your career.
First you doubt very much we achieved those attendance figures and the fact that RL was strong and got good crowd in the 90's, when i then give you the figures you still doubt it because you weren't born.

I understand they can't do the full blown 10 week tours like they used to but a watered down version would be great to get GB back and some hunger for GB v Aus in front of big crowds!'"
Hang on, 5 pages ago you were slating the RFL for 'watering down' International RL! You can't have it both ways mate...

And this achieves what? The season's over, players are on holiday (actually most are returning to start thinking about preseason training for the 2012 season). Again, who would the touring team play, outside of the tests?

What???
I never said they wern't good crowd figures, because they are. I said they are nothing that we cant currently achieve right now, because we are.
Insulting my intelligence doesn't help your flawed argument either mate, it just makes you look a bit silly.

Please go educate yourself on a tour and what it consisted of, when i say watered down, this means less games.
Please don't insult my RL knowledge, you are clearly a "know it all" that knows very little.

| Quote: Craig_UK "What are you talking about?
Ok education time, we used to play 3 games against the aussies called test matches. In between those test matches they would also play the top league clubs. So the figures i quoted for 1990, were Test 1 @ Wembley 57k, Test 2 @ OT 46k, Test 3 @ Elland Road 35k.
If you have no knowledge of the past please try and do some research before coming out with nonsense about international not being strong in the 90's'"
Wembley 1990 54,500 (not 57k) - Wembley 2011 45,000-50,000
Old Trafford 1990 46,000 - Eastlands 2004 38,000
Elland Road 1990 32,500 (not 35,000) - Elland Road 1997 39,000, Elland Road 2004 39,000, Elland Road 2009 31,000
What's your point?

So when i said we had good crowds in the 90's and you came out with this
Quote: Wheels "Now, back to you finding these stats where international rugby was selling out 60 thousand seater stadiums in the 80's and 90's...'"
So what did you mean, look if you make a mistake just say sorry like i have done, dont try and be clever after being so very wrong.

Clearly.
What were the attendance figures like when we had the 'watered down' tours from 2001-2003 and in 2007 then please?

Seen as he won't look for the stats himself... There was an Ashes series in the 1986, which had the following attendances;
OT; 50,583
Elland Rd; 30,808
Wigan; 20,169
The best attended match on British soil in the whole of the 80's apart from those three was 26,771 in Hull and was the first Test of the Ashes.
For the 1990 Ashes series the same venues were used, but Wigan was replaced with Wembley and opened up a decade of Tests at Wembley. So, even though the transition from the 80's to the 90's mirrors what is happening now the RFL are wrong for doing it and reading facts about how they are doing this is boring and we shouldn't bother paying attention to it.
Our friend though seems to disagree with taking a match to Wembley this year.

Wow another idiot comes along.
Why are you cherry picking the best attendances over a 14 year period compared to 3 test matches played within a month in 1990????
Those attendances were for 3 games within 4 weeks of the same year, check out the attendances for 1994 as well very impressive.

| I must admit that I'd be slightly leaning towards having the tours again instead of the Four Nations, if anything to add a little more credibility to the World Cup. If it's structured as the 'super group' again then it will just be a case of playing the Oz/NZ in the group stages, and then meet one or the other in the semi's and/or final. I know that is obviously a problem with the lack of strength in depth at international level, but I agree to an extent that it can become a little repetitive with playing both Oz/NZ every year in such tournaments.

It was YOU that was saying that internationals had much bigger crowds in the 80's and 90's than they do now, so I assumed that they were selling out 60-80 thousand seater stadiums, because the only figures you have quoted so far, are no better than that we currently achieve, right now.
So were you wrong?
