| Quote: EHW "have a look at how many NRL "superstars" come over here to SL and fail miserably, or those that have looked average over here, then gone back to starring in the NRL again.'"
But that is what happens when you import players with far more money or longer contracts and more money in some cases.
Will they all go their hardest?
Some are seeing the World having a Holiday or just in Cruise mode.
Take away from that the players that are bigged up that are rubbish in reality.
Others like Monaghan at Bradford was hot and cold but needed quality around him to shine (that is not uncommon) when he is expected to do it all on his own he can not and probably did not realise what he was joining and he was to be the one man Messiah.
Going from a top team in the NRL surrounded by SOO Players to an also ran in England would be a shock, but one the money would help ease.
King at Warrington in a classic example, paid massively more than in the NRL on a longer contract, he was on the end of a machine at the Storm that delivered the ball, goes to Warrington? Its a credit to him he has stuck it out and come good to a point.
English teams should be targeting Scott Prince, Lockyer, Cronk and Marshall in their prime, the bottom line is those players will not make the move regardless of the money until they are past it because the Main feature is the NRL.
No players leave the NRL to "Test" themselves in Super League. They do it for more Money longer contracts and it shows, Mercenaries are a fickle bunch unless they are proud Journeymen like Menzies, Fitzgibbon and others.

The Aussies in most cases are looking for the best in Burgess and Ellis and the bargain brothers or pay for play contracts.
Some of the money spent on Matt King or Shaun Berrigan would have been enough to get a Scott Prince on board.
Not in the same class but I bet Rangi Chase was not very expensive.

| Berrigan and King weren't top paid players.
Not in the Inglis, Thurston, Lockyer and Smith.
If you'd want these players you wouldn't have to match their wages you'd have to compensate them for losing their rep jerseys and moving to the Uk.

And in the case of Smith, for the large bags of cash they were getting paid off the books by the cheats at Melbourne...

I meant What SL Clubs were paying King and Berrigan compared to the NRL Clubs.
How much was King on?
Sure not as much as the top guns in the NRL but far more than any Winger / part time learning Centre was earning.

| Do you believe Warrington are paying King 20% of their cap?
Are you aware that when Berrigan and King came over the exchange rate was very different?

A Clubs set of books are a complex thing.
Many NRL Clubs would not do well under scrutiny and without the loopholes allowed for third party contracts.
Neither would many English Clubs.
Offshore payments to tax havens cheating the UK out of Taxes that should have been paid.
Image rights paid outside of a players contract.
Families employed from within the Club or its contacts.
Etc Etc.
The Big four have not just been able to afford the best players but also the best Accountants.
Look at some of the players on the team sheets and tell me how they are made to fit into the "live" cap.
They must be playing for the love of the Shirt or the fondness of life in Wigan, Saint Helens or Warrington.
Stranger things have happened I guess.

I am really aware of that as my company is very involved with the exchange rate daily.
I am not sure what Warrington's books said, I do know what Matt King said himself in the Oz press when he signed.
Along these lines, I could find the quote if pushed " Warrington are paying me a crazy amount of money for 4 years the deal was so good I could not refuse"
I found it.
[iKing said money was not the "be-all and end-all" in his decision but conceded

So when English players fail in the NRL it is because they are not good enough and when Australian players fail in the SL it is because they are not trying? Is that the gist or your point?

Not at all
Who has failed in the NRL lately that was any good?
Plenty of quality English players have been stars in Australia over the years.
Less so lately.
The Numbers and quantity of players that are imported to England on bigger payments are going to get players that are only going for the Money or the extra 2 years offered on a contract when they hit their thirties.

If the English Clubs knew the players to import in their later years you would save some time and money.
