| The pattern of support in Super League is that if you win you start attracting more supporters. There are time differentials between teams i.e. normally successful teams increase support faster when they improve after a fall off because they usually have a larger fan base built up over a period of sustained success. Harlequins RL need a period of sustained success to increase their support. They've started well so far and now have a trip to Leeds to further that cause...

But as this is sport , there is no coralation between success on the field leading to success on the balance sheet , like most real businesses
Also there is no guarantee that spending [ investing ] massively will result in on field success either , not forgetting the salary cap either
In sport Chelsea are a success , in business a massive failure that would have been shut down years ago

Isnt that the purpose of the SC which Chelsea dont have
Spend 1.6 million with 1,700 fans, spend 1.6 million with 20000 fans you dont think will make the books look a little better-hmmm

| An interesting addition would be how many of the total number of fans at heartland clubs attendence figures are away fans at each match? With many teams being close together and not having to drive for hours for an away match...this would surely build up attendance figures? London isn't going to attract that many visiting fans...possibly a couple of coaches if that.
It's not an easy proposition for the management at Quins...they have to get the RL message out and get infront of the other attractions...and also rely on more home support, as the away support is often deadful - admittedly not as bad as Quins away support...but 200 miles each way every other weekend isn't exactly cheap or easy for them.

i'll tell you now, at all but 2 or 3 home games (at most) each season at least 95% of those at Widnes games are widnes supporters.

Bar the local derbies, Quins probably receive the biggest away support of the lot because of the 'weekend away' factor.

Maybe they should move closer to the M62 and call themselves North London Quins like their counter parts in South Wales.

Think those days have gone tbh for a lot of reasons, a lot of people like the Stoop sure, but with France, MM and Cru on the calendar & Wembly back on for the CC, it's not the draw it used to be, and a few just refuse [London fans included] to go anywhere near a Union ground.

Fair point. Still above average though, from my experience. Or at least compared to a Friday game in Hull etc.

True, and it's one area where the club[s] over the years have not perhaps done enough work with local business to make the one away game per season an attractive enough proposition for away supporters............we should not just try to build gates via away fans, but it's not an either/or option, all means of increasing support should be looked at in the round.

I've been to a few Quins games in the last few years and seen a decent number of away fans, so not sure if that argument is valid.

An often leveled criticism of us in 2005 , however apart from Warrington , and to a degree W1g4n the away support that came to Hilton park was very poor IMO
It is your responsibility to get your fans to attend your home matches , simple as , if they cant get excited about Crusaders , Salford or Wakefield , how excited would they be about Dewsbury , Swinton or Workington [ no disrespect to those fine clubs that always bring a loud and enthusiastic support to Leigh ] ?
