If you want more of the same just pop over to our board for a little while. Standee's ability to start a fight in an empty room is legendary over our way. Although he is in a particularly spiky mood this weekend for some reason (take a look at almost any thread on the Fc forum for further evidence).

If nothing else, he will always provoke a (heated) debate to the point where threats of physical violence towards him are starting to become commonplace over in Fc land. Of course, as an old peace loving hippie I couldn't possible endorse such actions even though a lynch mob is steadily growing in numbers with the sole aim of stringing him up, it seems.

I suspect that if he continues to make visits to the VT then You and He will be exchanging further pleasantries over due course.

Duly noted. It's hard to resist rising to the bait when it's from the 'What does the RFL ever do to promote the game'? backed with 'What a stupid idea by the RFL' school of logic.

BUT Warrington knocked them out of the play-offs.......... which in the opinion of SKY, SuperLeague and therefore the RFL is THE competition.

Does a game gather meaning from there being a prize a the end of it?

If that is the case, then this may trouble you.

There’s three possible fates for the universe, one is called the Big Crunch, where gravity takes over and begins to pull the cosmos back, compressing to one point. Another extreme is the Big Rip, where the expansion of the universe just gets faster until galaxies, stars, planets, atoms and space itself is ripped apart. Somewhere between these two extremes is what the now-defunct Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) mission’s data showed to be the likely scenario where the expansion of the universe is not great enough for a big rip and gravity is not strong enough for a big crunch. Instead it will continue to expand, carrying everything we see today over the cosmic horizon where they will be so far away, that their light cannot reach us. The sky will be dark and as all of the stars begin to go out, the universe will grow, cold and lifeless in a so-called big freeze.

Therefore everything is pointless as there is no prize at the end of it all.

(unless you believe in the afterlife. In which case your dandy) (unless your screwed)

Have a very happy Monday. icon_smile.gif

Back on topic, were Huddersfield not concerned about stumping up the cash for this game anyways?

The article that announced Warrington were taking part (link below) says only that Huddersfield were undecided about whether to enter. It doesn't say that they turned it down and has no direct quote from anyone connected with Huddersfield.

rlhttps://www1.skysports.com/rugby-league/news/12196/9502397/world-club-series-warrington-wolves-confirmed-as-third-super-league-entrantsrl

It also makes no mention of Castleford and their possible participation. Had it been offered to Huddersfield due to their 3rd place in the regular season (and been declined) then the next port of call would have been Castleford who were 4th rather than Warrington who were 5th in the regular season. With Cas not mentioned at all then I think it is likely that Huddersfield weren't offered the third slot (as the 3rd ranked team was always meant to be defined as the losing semi-finalist that finished higher in the league i.e following the way that prize money is allocated after the GF).

The journalist (as did many fans including myself) seems to have assumed that 3rd best ranked meant 3rd in the league table. This was probably assumed to be the case as 1st in the league was stated to guarantee a place (so it seemed likely that league placing was the most important rather than playoff performance) and the RFL/SLE did not clarify beforehand what constituted being the 3rd ranked side should the league leaders make the GF. They appear to have assumed that everyone knew what they meant and that it didn't need clarification.

From the start I thought they were being deliberately vague so they could ensure they got the 3 teams that they wanted. Had Leeds or Warrington finished 3rd in the table, and Huddersfield or Cas had come 3rd in the play offs I am sure that they would have gone for the final league table position as the criteria.

Cracking idea this expanded WCC, isn't it?

Without forward-thinking people like GH involved in the game, it wouldn't be where it is today.

So basically all this expansion has done is show that the NRL don't give a damn about it. Shocking organisation.

A pretty disappointing announcement. It basically says that 8 clubs couldn't be bothered with it.

If Canterbury had won the grand final we would have had 1,2, and 8 now we have 1,8, and 11. You get the feeling the only purpose of this tournament is to prove it doesn't work so we don't have to try it again. Having said that I will be going to all three games anyway.

The nrl treating us like the distant cousin in the family that everyone can't stand but invites to the family parties like bithdays and weddings and gets lumped on the table furthest away.

So how is this all going to work?

It looks like only 3 games will take place over the weekend in Feb, so who wins? Is it highest score? I can't find anything to suggest how it will operate other than "oooh its expanded" and effectively "isn't it exciting?"
